1.9 sportline 5 push Cold start problem

Post by ROYAMAN27 »

Good day Everyone.

Im new to the forum just need a bit help with a tdi i recently purchased.
The first things i'm struggling with is a hard start in the morning only starts after like 5 to 10 Cranks accompanied with think white smoke which i cant tell if its a diesel or oil smell which goes away when the car reaches 90 peek temp. Same happens when i park the car for more then 2 hours per day and its not near as cold for the glow plugs to be in use here in Joberg.Scanned for trouble codes nothing comes up and im to my witts with this.
Recently replaced glow plugs with goldwagen ones and had my harness tested all seemded well with the mechanic.

Any assist would be higly appreciated.

Most likely leaky injector seals. Causes air in the fueling system.

If possible, park the car at an incline nose up for a day, then the next day, nose down. And check if it makes a difference.

Or if parked flat, turn the key off and on a few times to prime the system - should make it start up faster.

When a car tailgates me, i slow down - then floor it and give them a cloud of diesel smoke to choke on :driving:

Thanks for the reply @Ashveer03.

How do I sort this matter out?
Do I have to buy completely new Injectors or Do I buy a new seal kit?

Saw the seal Kit on GW website but I assume this seal kit is for each/Individual Injector or is the kit for all 4 Injectors? (Answer this too if you can plz)

First confirm the issue. Replacing injector seals is abit costly, and they must be fitted correctly or U will have problems.

If U park nose down the car would start faster, nose up would take longer as the fuel will return back to the tank.

Even those pesky o-rings on the fuel filter housing (plastic T-piece) can cause fuel to return back to the tank.

Another method is to use clear hose between the fuel filter and the rail on the cylinder head, and check for air bubbles in the return line - tells U that there's air getting into the lines either at the injectors or the tandem pump.

If the seals are very bad, the engine will stutter and misfire, injector values on vcds will be high.

Also check if there's any diesel entering the engine oil.

Anyways, the seal kits are sold per injector. So U basically need 4x seal kits, 4x injector bolts and 8x rocker arm bolts. Including a tappet cover gasket.

I would opt to use seal kits from diesel electric - Bosch brand. Gw has Febi - haven't used them before, can't comment on those.
The bolts - agents only (gw might have the rocker arm bolts, can't remember I always get them from vw)
