VW 2012 Golf 6 Cabrio

Post by Myhero »

Hello

I’ve bought a car from We Buy Cars Montegue Gardens two years ago.

The car has given me nothing but problems since purchase despite it having a Dekra Report which didn’t indicate any problems at all.

What I’ve done since taking ownership of the vehicle:

1. I took the car to Tyger Wheel and Tyre and they found that one of the rims were bent - R800 to repair.

2. I replaced the battery as it died within 3 months.

3. The car would suddenly lose power whilst driving. I took the car back to WBC and they advised that it was the turbo actuator that was the issue and advised that they had replaced it. The same issue occurred a few months later and I took the car to VW Barons Cape Town and they said it was the turbo actuator - which WBC had claimed to have replaced. VW then replaced the part. The invoice was R20 000. My warranty paid 50%.

4. The car then stared to cut out whilst driving and the dashboard would light up, traction control, steering wheel and other light would come up intermittently.
I took the car to VW Kraaifontain CFAO and after a diagnostics they said I had to replace the clutch and steering rack which includes sensors.
The initial quote was R75000 but after some negotiation they agreed to use generic parts which I am fine with as it meant the warranty would pay for the work in full.

5. This however did not solve the issues experienced.
VW said they removed the gearbox, sent the mecatronics for assessment and all was found to be in order.
Then they said they suspect my ECU and it was removed and sent to Combined Electronics for a refurb. I paid R8000 for the refurbishment.

Today, the car was driven to a depot from which it’ll be shipped from Cape Town to Gauteng. During the drive the car cut out 8-10 times and needed a push on the road.

I intend taking the car to VW Barons Woodmead for an assessment.

Are there any obvious things I should ask that they check other than a diagnostics?

Since your car is long out of manufacturer warranty, forget WBC or VW, take it to VAG Spec Centre in Bellville for an assessment...

Sorry, I reread your post and see you are going to be in Gauteng soon, in that case take the car to VAG Spec Centre in Randburg for an assessment...

In general, need to read those Dekra reports with a huge pinch of salt. Those reports are a guideline and are not always gospel

Man I'm so sorry about your issues,

I also purchased a 2013 Golf 6 Cabrio from them (Epping) and fortunately I haven't had any issues, only thing issue I have is every now and then the front windows roll up and down or jerk a tiny bit, but it doesn't happen that often.

Also noticed airbag error and all my other lights went on once, one time, also how many Kms did you have on the car, I had 99k

Hi guys

@Tiga I also had around 99k and it's now on 126k and hasn't really been driven over the last 6 months.

Update:

I've taken my car to VAG Randburg, they recommended I replace the DSG mechatronics which I did (35.5k).

I picked the car and drive home and I thought this might have fixed the problem. It's my fiance's car, so she took it to work Friday, and when she came home last night she said there are 2 warning lights that came on - red flag - so she took the car to work today, Saturday, and got stuck on the road on the way home.

I took a video of all the warning lights and errors, see image.

Are there any specialists in Midrand that can diagnose that problem?

Note: the TMPS and Steering warning lights were flashing.

When you bring your car to VW Barons Woodmead, make sure to ask them to check out the fuel system, electrical connections, and ignition system. Those could be the culprits behind the problems you've been experiencing.
