What oil for Tiguan TDI

Hi guys

So it’s about time I do the first service on my Tiguan TDI ( 103kw vatiant ) and would like to know what oil to use. Is it the same 505.01 spec we use on the PD motors or would it be another spec. I always use Castrol Edge Prof on my PD TDi, and would like to use the same oil in my Tiguan if the spec is right.

TIA

Have you checked your manual?

The Tiguan should be 507

Owners manual clearly states 505-01 for the 103kw.

Did the service today. Was extremely easy, not much different than servicing my Polo.

Aah okay.
Mine is the 81kW so I use 507.

Hi guys. I am still confused on this topic. Mine is the 81kw version. So is it the 505.01 oil or the 507 spec ? And what brand and viscosity oil do you recommend ? Thanks in advance.

The Jetta 4 TDI (81 kW) employs much older injection technology than the Tiguans, namely VE pump. 505.01 is appropriate, but even 505.00 is OK. VE-TDI technology has been on the market since 1990.

Stephan (Panic Mechanic), who is my trusted mechanic, recommends Wolf Lubricants, and I use the ExtendTech 5W40.

Afterthought:
What's critical for PD engines, is to buy a suitable HTHS oil (high temperature high shear). PDs are unit injectors, called "Pumpe Düse" in German. They create severe pressure and friction conditions on the camshaft lobes that operate the PD units.

VE engines don't have these. The injection pump is lubricated by the Diesel itself. The engine sub-assembly and cylinder head will probably run on just about any oil especially if you don't extend the change intervals.
