Hi guys, I've been looking around to buy a 2014/2015 golf 7 gti with mileage under 50k...how's the reliability? Has anybody experienced any huge issues with their car?

Much appreciated

I think the biggest downfall is the timing chain issue, lots of threads with that problem

Isn't that just with the golf 6 gti pre 2013?

Ok i just went through the post that i have seen, it was a golf7 1.4tsi not a gti, my bad..

It was probably revised on the later mk7s to avoid the havoc.. lets wait for the mk7 fans to share their opinions..

very few known problems so far. water pumps with thermostats is one of the few I know.
No tensioner / chain issue I heard of so far.

Panic is correct, mechanically the pre 2015 models had thermostat housing failures. Rattle on the drivers sun visor and one touch on the electric windows sometimes goes off. That's all I can think off.

Seen a few complaints regarding sunroof issues. Then the earlier models GTI and R 2013/2014 has turbo issues, those should be resolved now though.
Definite upgrade from the 6 GTI

My R had the sunvisor rattle, among other rattles and the one touch on windows going off is a regular occurrence. Other than that I haven't had any faults besides having to plug two tyres...

Yes, thermostat / water pump as mentioned.
Window switch losing one touch memory.
Rattles, lots of them. Sunroof, Visor, Fuel lines, Sound actuator.

Very good cars when people have to mention rattles as a failure.....

I agree, I would say it's still early days but the G6GTis were having tct failures in the first weeks of ownership. So well done to VW for improving the design.

Thanks somuch for the Info guys, really appreciate all the input. Even tho the rattles aren't massive issues, when you spend somuch money on a vehicle it's never pleasant to even have these smaller issues

There were just the common items already mentioned. To be honest the rattles can really be annoying, I ended finding and fixing them myself.

They are honestly beautiful all rounder cars. I got great fuel economy, performance and its a great place to be in.

This, I have one rattle in the front passenger door to sort out but she has otherwise been faultless and is a pleasure to drive every day.

I seem to have a rattle by the sunroof  must get that sorted asap.
My visor light has a felt type material on obviously to prevent that from rattling

The rattles will end you - mine does the same.
I did have to replace a thermostat on mine and other than that nothing else, I've had it for 3 services, no other issues. its a great car.

Great improvement over the 6 GTi w.r.t reliability (so far). I'm always interested to see how cars fare once they age past 10 years.

Yup. That is where the things start to tell. 150k km + and around 10years. This is wher many golf 5 are now and BWA / CDL engine failures are around aplenty. But at the same time there are some on stupid km still going happily. There is one little A3 in the audi club at over 370k km on a bwa unopened and I know several at over 200k

Small things not really big mechanical issues, almost 75000km covered

Thermostat (replaced under warranty)
Window up and down memory disappears (learned to live with it)
Sunroof rattle (lubrication helps)
Blowing hot air from driver outer air vent (software update sorted)
Radiator leak (replaced under extended warranty)
Sensitive to non OE brake pads
Sound actuator or whatever it is called - I disconnected mine with the last service, it is the single best "mod" you can do! You can actually hear the exhaust better and it drives and cruises whisper quiet (until you floor it!) I guess mine might have been shot, but there is also a lot less perceived vibration now.
Yokohama Decibels also improves overall refinement and comfort.
I guess I'm lucky but I don't have rattles driving me mad, the car feels like its built from rock.

I can't even start thinking what I would like to replace her with, it is truly great car and I rather started limiting mileage a bit than have to replace in the next two years.

Has anybody had coolant loss issues with their MkVII's? On my way home last night I got a low coolant warning and when I checked the level at home, it was below minimum. I popped past Hatfield VW Bryanston this morning to get some G13 so I can top her up when she cools down.

Yup. Leaking rad or waterpump is not uncommon.

At 30k km's? She is going in for a service next week so I'll ask them to have a look.
