What or WHO is Ross-Tech/VAG-COM?

Sorry for morraly insane questions that just waste forum space...but I'm new to VAG and want all stupid questions answered...
So everywhere I read I see VAG-COM this and VAG-COM made coffee and some guy on some forum even claimed that VAG-COM was vagging his wife...
Anyway...what is it, why do I need it, where can I get it?
I've been on Ross-Tech's site, and almost downloaded the software but I'm sure its not as simple...do I need to buy anything? A cable?
Is it one of those plugnplay cables you connect to your laptop and then to the car's ECU and then read all error codes and delete them etc?

Yip. Ross-tech is the company that makes the calbes. And yes, it's a diagnostic cable & Software.....

check out stopshop.co.za, they selling the cables quite cheap, I need to organise one too. Pity I shoulve taken the one out the company before it was liquidated

The genuine Ross-Tech cable is still better IMHO.
But expensive...

I gather the right Rosstech cable for GolfV and VI would be the R3,K one? Ouchy! What is micro-can anyhow?

A cable that can be used with CAN-bus vehicles like the Golf VI.

what is the difference between micro can and USB & Can cables?
