Just thought I'd mention, that the other day I forgot my keys in my pocket and surfed for over an hour.
Luckily the key seems to be waterproof, as it still works fine!

Hi Dawie,

And yes Vanesh i only fitted it on Sunday so i'll send you a pic, just need to fit the tail pieces now and fit the Pedal set and then i'm done, only 7 months after purchase, i know it took some time but it's done now.

I'm sorry, I know this is off topic...but I heard that there would now be 1.6lt engines from the Golf 8 GTI onwards

Hi Guys...
I'm new to the forum, I need some advice. I currently drive a Polo R6 1.6 comfortline. I use my car for personal use as well as business use. I average around 3300km monthly which consists mostly of short sprints in and around KZN. I do the odd "long distance" trip maybe once a month of around 200km. My dilemma is my fuel bill, I'm averaging 9.0L / 100km.
After doing some research I decided to change my car to the golf 7 1.4 TSI DSG comfortline, I ordered the following specs as extra's
Leather
Sunroof
Media composition
High beam
According to my research the car's average fuel consumption is 5.2 L / 100km however given that my polo states 6.9 L / 100km I'm assuming it's not an accurate indication of fuel consumption. When I arrived at Alpine Vw to sign my OTP, I ask the sales rep for some advice and was advised not to change from the polo to the TSI as consumption will be around the same? Instead I should opt for the 2.0 TDI 81 KW variant. I test drove the car and was not as satisfied as compared to the TSI. *first time driving a diesel*
Please could you advise me of the following;
TSI - mileage range per a full tank with mixed driving conditions
TDI - mileage range per a full tank with mixed driving conditions
Ps. I'm getting both at the same price however the TDI will exclude the sunroof but include balance of extra's
Main aim is to reduce my fuel bill on a monthly basis even though car will cost a bit more than the polo rather drive the G7 with lower fuel costs and add the extra cash towards a slightly higher repayment
So confused!

Are you buying a new car to save fuel/money? Because I doubt you'll save money purely by buying a new car. 9l/100 is probably the norm if you do short sprints (where the 6R Polo is quite at home), and I doubt a new car will be a lot different, especially the heavier Golf.
Then, if you're not satisfied with how the TDI drives, then will you be happy if you buy a TDI instead of the TSI? TDI is more of a cruiser in my opinion.
My long term consumption for my TDI is at 4.6-4.7l/100, buy some say I have an atypical way of driving and/or route.

Thanks for the feedback, in comparison to the Polo the Golf 7 weather TDI or TSI is a much more refined ride, what I disliked about the TDI was the first gear, I stalled 3 times on test drive, assume you need to feed a bit more diesel to get it running? ( too used to petrol engines)
The intent behind the change is to save on fuel costs , I get a kick back of 3.24c per every business km that I travel, I calculated that if I change to a more fuel economical car, I can either break even on monthly expenditure on a vehicle or increase my overall car cost by a few hundred but in a much better vehicle. I technically don't want to save any money but rather spend the same amount of cash monthly including fuel costs on a better vehicle
I think I just answered my own question.....the only way to achieve my goal will be in a TDI.
I've never owned a diesel before so forgive me for the 100 questions;
Is your fuel consumption average, or only if you are driving within specific conditions?
Are there any facts of a diesel that I should be aware of ito maintenance?
Did you personally encounter any issues with your TDI?
Appreciate your feedback,

TDI is extremely easy to drive, and should be easier than the petrol. Short first gear. With mine I can almost just let the clutch out slowly.
Dantes inferno wrote:Is your fuel consumption average, or only if you are driving within specific conditions?
Yes, on average. I am however used to driving a TDI (which you don't have to rev alot), so I'm probably more used to driving economical. And I generally do +-20km or longer trips.
Dantes inferno wrote:Are there any facts of a diesel that I should be aware of ito maintenance?
No. Only use 50 ppm diesel.
Dantes inferno wrote:Did you personally encounter any issues with your TDI?
None specific to TDI.

Pleasure.

Just beware that the Golf 7 TDI (as far as I can see) isn't really represented on Fuelly. Those 2014 models are G6 in the US. The two GTD models are performance models.

I also moved from a petrol to a diesel and have stalled a couple of times myself, but think it's coz I'm not completely used to diesel driving yet, but getting there

I spoke to my old mechanic about working/maintenance on diesel and how they differ from petrol cars. He had a guy with a Tiguan in (which has the same engine apparently) that needed to replace the particulate filter which costs a ton. He said it's good to do a long trip (30min+ open road) every two weeks or so to get the engine and exhaust burning hot to avoid having these issues. (I may be wrong here, diesel-noob here)
I average about 4.8 l/100km per my car, 5.2 l/100km per my calculations for combined cycle.

Yip, but this is beneficial for most cars. On the TDI models with a particulate filter this helps to heat up the filter to a high enough temperature to burn of the accumulated soot.

Nice
Edit: 4.6l/100km per my car, and 4.84l/100km per my own logs

- New Volkswagen Golf TDI BlueMotion uses less than three liters per 100 kilometers on the “Think Blue. Eco Ride.”- 1602 kilometers/995 miles – from Nantes to Copenhagen without refueling- DEKRA-supervised test value shows: actual consumption figures below the standard value are possibleThe Golf TDI BlueMotion completed the distance between Nantes and Copenhagen – 1602 kilometers/995 miles – with a single tankful. The Golf TDI BlueMotion completed the distance between Nantes and Copenhagen – 1602 kilometers/995 miles – with a single tankful. On a DEKRA-supervised test run, the Volkswagen Golf TDI BlueMotion has proved itself to be a real three-liter car. On the trip from Nantes to Copenhagen, the Golf with the 81 kW/110 PS TDI engine used only 2.92 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers (80.56 mpg). The distance between the two cities – 1602 kilometers/995 miles – was completed with a single tankful.Simon Thomas, Head of Marketing of the Volkswagen Group and the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand: “this is a really impressive result. The trip shows that the interaction between fuel-saving BlueMotion efficiency technology and a well thought-out proactive driving approach allows economy figures that are hard to match.”The highly varied route of the trip led from Nantes in the West of France, the “European Green Capital 2013″, via Paris, Antwerp, Bremen and Hamburg to the Danish capital Copenhagen, situated on the Baltic, “European Green Capital 2014″. The “Think Blue. Eco Ride.” shows that the standard consumption figure based on the NEDC driving cycle, which is already extremely low at 3.2 liters per 100 kilometers (73.5 mpg) and 85 grams of CO2 per kilometer, can even be beaten. Drivers from the Volkswagen Driving Experience succeeded in reaching a verified value of 2.92 liters of diesel per 100 kilometers (80.56 mpg) in normal traffic over a driving time of 20 hours and 45 minutes. The standard 50-litre/13.2 gallon tank was filled in Nantes, where it was sealed by a DEKRA inspector. At the end of the trip, 46.92 liters/12.39 gallons of diesel were filled into the same tank under the supervision of the same inspector. The Golf TDI BlueMotion is one of the technical highlights of the Golf family. Like all the other Golf models. It has a standard start-stop system and regenerative braking mode. In addition, the perfected aerodynamics, the low weight of the vehicle, the modified six-speed manual gearbox and especially the tires, which have been optimized for low rolling resistance, contribute to the high efficiency of the Golf TDI BlueMotion.“Think Blue.” Is the internationally-based holistic environmental sustainability strategy of the Volkswagen Passenger Cars brand. The initiative includes innovative, environmentally compatible products with various powertrain technologies and is intended to encourage people to rethink and join in. Simon Thomas: “Through ‘Think Blue.’, we show that low-consumption driving can be combined with driving pleasure. This is why Volkswagen offers fuel saving training in a number of countries, for example ‘Think Blue. Ecotraining’ in cooperation with ‘Naturschutzbund Deutschland in Germany.’”

Hi Dantes
I drive a 1.4TSi DSG. My current mileage is now 20000KM.
I drive from Ballito to Mount Edgecombe daily with a few stop -start and also traffic. Aircon is on Auto all the time.
I average around 6.2L/100Km from Ballito to Mount edgecombe and around 5.4L/100Km from Mount edgecombe to Ballito.
Driving speed varies from 100 to 140Km/h.
On a tank- not sure if it is full as I only fill up till first click- I get around 700KM

Decided to take the factory fitted leather instead of the after market....and guess what no stock in SA

if an order is placed now, i can get it in June / July or opt for the after market leather
The factory fitted leather just looks so much better and feels much 'nicer'...so disappointed!!

yup that seems to be the problem with the multiple 'option' theory of car sales.
there are so many combinations thats its highly unlikely anyone will actually find one of exactly what they want.
result is they pretty much have to build each car to order hence the 3 months :-/
