I wait for the club drag events but when it costs you around 1k (and that's on my car) Just to get there and enter, it is expected that the turn will be minimal.
Yes hiring the track and equipment is expensive, that we know, and of course the club needs to at least cover up costs.
Personally here is what I see.
Pros:
1. It's not ODI thank goodness it isn't
2. Enough space to park and lekker facilities
3. It's easy to get to, just 1 straight road
4. It's safe
Cons:
1. Its Purse far
2. It costs a lot to enter (Nope I'm not a member anymore, so 100 Bucks extra)

4. The caliber of cars that are there are way out of my league to race
5. It's not worth a drive just to spectate, and if I were to race refer to point 4
6. It's in the fasting month, it's moer hot in the sun
7. R1000 just to get there, race and get back home is expensive for a lot of us

With all the drag events happening around, the new Drag clubs that have popped up and the new big chiefs setting up major race days, this could have definitely been much bigger and pull a proper crowd and entrants. I'm not sure if this was given the hyper it needed like our old events from lets say 2015. Yay nice, a poster and an event on Facebook, but really not enough to get it out there (maybe I'm mistaken, and I've missed it, If so I accept I am wrong)
I look at all the different "Race crews" which have popped up, their events are huge. Its grudge match haven, it's exciting and people go to support, also it isn't overpopulated with with new cars, there's some real old school tech and tune that is live and well, apart from the boring GTR's and high end cars.
Another thing that keeps me away is that's gone boring. No disrespect to the guys or anything, but I much rather watch a Ford Escort which was BUILT and tuned by some oomie on his front lawn then a factory car which went to XX workshop, bolted on shinny bits and a computer file and now reigns supreme. Perhaps I'm old school that way, but even just to spectate. Watching all the new cars, which look the same and sound the same is a waste of time for me personally. But that's personal opinion, and that's why I don't attend.
So should this event get canned?

I remember a few years back, we had an event at the rock. 200m headsup, that was fun, the smaller guys got a chance to play a bit too and it was also closer and way way cheaper.
but in all seriousness, that is more down to low entries. Seeing the same cars race again and again can be boring but these events are put on more for the drivers than for the spectators, and knowing we wouldn't have a huge turnout meant that we felt it would be rude to charge spectators to possibly watch only 10 cars race. The more support we get from our forum and club members, the more racers will show up and the more exciting the racing will be for the spectator.I love this club, my best friends I've met because of this club. I know 1st hand the effort it takes to get events off the ground, the time and all the preps. You will never keep everyone happy, and sadly the guys asking for performance events are the busy ones who forget they asked and end up missing the events. Now please take my responses to these points as a general response. They are not intended to cause offence to you specifically but are here to respond to many people who I fear share your thoughts.

Anything Over 45 mins is far, but fortunately its and easy road
Cost - even at R550 a racer, it's the cheapest timed drag event besides a Friday night at Tarlton.

It's a difficult situation to be in, both as the club and as a member thereof. We must give the people what they ask for and the spectators and racers must also get value for their time and money. It's a sad and chilling thought to imagine canning an event that everyone who attends seems to have a blast at, including 99% of spectators that we spoke to, but we have to consider it as a possibility if we don't get more support.
This is something the club needs make peace with, old the old guys who wanted performance events have gotten busy and life took its course. Or they outgrew the club and find fuel for their passion elsewhere. The culture years back was alot different to now, before it was about being fast. Now its about building show cars, sitting with a hubbly and talking kak with mates. You know for a fact those events pull the numbers. Look at the night runs, or MCGS etc.
How many of the old performance orientated guys still log on? Not much. Tuners and their and their best customers who become family are those who attend the performance events if you think about it. Also many years ago before new people joined the forum and got butthurt by everything, this forum was busy and people were excited to attend events to carry the childishness through to events. Now it's just become another technical forum, which a lot of the guys wanted, because they couldn't handle being roasted
So please take a look at what the event is like currently, what you and your friends have to say about making it better, and let's make a decision on how to improve at the AGM...

True, but also doesn't require as much fuel to get there and back
So basically the complaint about distance stems from where you are based, rather than the actual distance from JHB centre. I personally use a lot more fuel going to Tarlton because of the traffic, traffic lights, speed limit, and poor road surface - even though I'm closer to Tarlton than Redstar.

That's why I suggested voting on a date change.
Actually, I remember you specifically bringing up the issue of date a number of times - with regards to DubRun - and as I have suggested, previous people occupying the role of chair and vice repeatedly urged you and others with similar thoughts to come to the AGM to at least table it and then vote (as we do every year) on the date of various events. Yet, you weren't there and nor was anyone else with similar sentiments. Or, if I somehow missed it, you were there once and then didn't try again...
Again, this is not a personal attack - but it does speak to the bigger problem here: people online want things to change to suit their needs but get disappointed at the result of every year's AGM (or even other events) despite not attending... So again I beg, please come to the AGM and have your say. It would be refreshing to actually hear it in person and let democracy decide what the next year brings.

I agree 100%. Now if you were there, you'd have seen an old Audi S2 do some ridiculous runs, an old turbocharged home-built Beetle lay some beatings down on much newer metal, an N/A Honda and N/A Citi on throttles compete against a home built 16VT Citi and a pair of Polo TDi's and more...

Agreed here too. The forum has changed into what many wanted it to and now that it's happened, many of the same people miss what they so despised. Yes, families have taken over the lives of many, but we're falling back into the same debate that has roared on for the past three or four years, one that should be saved for the AGM where it makes a difference to the outcome of the provisional calendar. This is why attendance at the AGM is important - but only if you actually care about what happens to this club.
