Hi Everyone,
I am new to this forum, glad to see that there is a place dedicated to Golf 7 owners locally. I have just taken delivery of my Golf 7 1.4 TSI Highline. Its an amazing car! I am a BMW fanatic and currently drive a BMW 3 series e90 but when I test drove a friends 1.4 tsi Comfortline I was so impressed I just had to purchase a Golf 7. I also really wanted the Xenon lights but would have had to wait as the Highline models are very scarce and had a waiting list but they managed to find me a White one with the Media device interface fitted. It looks very neat with the additional silver strip in the front and actually didnt mind the normal lights with this look so I signed the papers and took delivery. I havn't experienced the Radio and waste gate issue to date. I have two questions however and hoping someone can assist:
1) Media device interface - Was this option suppose to come with an adapter cable? I have looked everywhere in the car and there isn't one. I have queried with the dealer but they didn't know if it came with one. The website says the following:
Mobile device interface Media-In with iPod/iPhone adapter cable in front storage box
(Compels "Composition Media" radio) - so to me that means its supposed to have come with one.
2) I have done my research on the 103kw/250nm 1.4tsi highline engine before I purchased it and globally this particular high compression 103kw engine comes with Active cylinder management technology. I have yet to experience the cylinder shut down on my car. I have not had the notification on my computer to say this is operational. Does anyone know how to activate this? It wouldn't make sense for the South African version not to have this technology activated as the rest of the world has it, and in terms of economies of scale it would make sense for this to be activated. Does anyone have in-dept knowledge of this?
Otherwise I am loving the car! The ambient lighting in my car is awesome, the door side panels, door handles, footwell, roof lighting all light up in this xenon type lighting, I love it! You can also control the level of lighting for all of this.
The radio is also very impressive. I'm sure there would be software updates coming our way to make it even more user friendly and better.

Welcome to the forum Ne3tz and I hope you have many happy miles with your new car.
To answer your two questions:
1. MDI on the Golf 7 comes standard with an iPod cable. I my case the sales person handed it to me with my keys. Have you had a look in the hidden compartment forward from the gear lever?
2. There are two different 103 kW models on the market and unfortunately South Africa gets the one without active cylinder management.
Glad to see you like the extra bits that comes with the Highline. That ambient lighting sounds way cool. What radio does your car come with? It is only the 5.8" media composition model that has the bad reception issue. Also I am not sure if the waste gate rattle issue applies to the 103 kW motor.

Thanks for the response Dawie. I have checked in the hidden compartment where the actual port is but no cable. I have just sent the salesmen an email regarding this so will wait for his response.
The highline comes standard with the 5.8" media composition radio, I will check the software version of this - maybe it came updated already.

Oh that is true, I forgot it comes with the 5.8" radio as standard. Would be great if you could check the software version and report back here.

I've driven it for a morning when they sorted something out on my car. VERY nippy for a 1.2. I was really impressed by it. I suspect it'll suffer when loaded with passengers and luggage on higher speeds. Depends on what you want to use it for.

Hi and Welcome!!
The answers to your questions are:
1. Cable should have come with the car, if not they must give you one.
2. The ACT as it is called will only hit our shores in 2014 apparently but is definately not availble yet, you'll probably find the software for the ACT and non ACT models will be the same.
The wastegate issue definately applies to the 103KW as well, it applies to all the 1.4TSI regardless of the KW's. I found that most people only experienced it after 500 - 1000km's or maybe the clip has been fitted already.
Anyways enjoy your new ride and hope you have many more years of happy motoring.
Can't wait until Thursday

Thanks for the additional information.
How often do you guys get the intermittent loud start-up? Mine seems to happen only once a day. Not in the morning when I first start-up but on the second start-up of the day. I drive a very short distance to work. So short my car does not even show the oil temperature when I pull in to work. Maybe it has something to do with the engine not warming up properly?

Do they have stock? Last time I checked there were no stock of the MDI to USB. Also I would like to get the chrome tail pipe trim which there is no stock of either.

Hi Guys,
You don't need to get the tail pieces from VW, they're off their rockers at that price, most speedy's or exhaust places sell the tail ends for about R280 to R400, the 2 pipes ar 60mm in diameter, phone around you'll find it alot cheaper.
Vanesh, yes i picked her up on Wednesday afternoon excluding the LED tails of course, that'll be sorted in a month or 2, just waitng now for my rims to arrive and then i'm pretty much done.

Vanesh, I have the same issue with a knocking/creaking/rattle at low speeds over uneven surfaces. Its driving me nuts, have you heard of any solutions?

Hi Vannie,
I ordered a set of 17" Telladega's, it's the best compromise between looks and comfort, the 18's are just to hard and the tyre prices for the 18's are crazy.

Sorry Vannie,
I ordered them from a place called Karasmatic Motor World here in Cape town, you should be able to get them easy in JHB at a place called Auto Style.

Im in Cape Town as well. I'm aware of Karasmatic Motor World. Contacted them the other day regarding possibility of after marked rims that's the same as the Highline rims, Dijons, or another option, the 17" Madrid that's available in UK. But they don't have any yet, maybe later in 2013.
Got a quote from VW to fit 17" Dijons on Comfortline. They asked an additional R30k. No thank you!!!

Hi Vannie,
The Dijon's are nice but not for that price, i don't really like the Madrid or the Singapore, i much prefer the Watkins Glen and Telladega, suits the car better!!
