R82 is the old johannesbirg road? as far as i know it in a good state. But it has been a long while since i drove there.

I see its only the Vereeniging portion u will be driving, that part is not too bad.

Any reason for the r551 detour? The r59 all the way to vanderbjle is decent. I travel that side alot
