Re: Golf 7 TSI/TDI Owners Discussion Corner

Post by dwr »

Hi Guys, i received my Golf 7 1.4 TSI in May this year and i have the same rear suspension noise. All vw did was tighten the rear shock mountings and the noise was much better but not gone.
They say vw sa knows about it and is trying to find a solution!
I drove my car with 2 wheels on the grass and 2 on the road in front of my house and found out the the noise is only from the left hand rear side of the car.
I have just left things but now i think the noise is getting worse, so will be e-mailing vw sa and going back to the dealer again.
I will be selling mine if no solution is found as this is unacceptable on a 300k car or even better just take the car back and ask for my money back.
Keep the updates coming on this rear suspension noise, we cant just leave this. The more people complain the better, maybe they will do something about it.

Hi

How come the guys in the UK are having newly designed shocks fitted and they all say the noise is gone.
Make sure the didnt just fit the orginal part number. It must be a new part number on the shocks, no good just fitting the orginal it has been done before and has not worked.
I am off to the dealer today to raise hell!

Search on Google for TPI 234188/5 and translate the page.

Replacing shock is not solving the problem

Hi Vanesh

What did you click on to translate that website?
Weird as most of the guys on that other mk7 forum seem to be saying its solving the problem.
I will let you know what happens my side.
Not happy at all, front right suspension even makes a noise over speed bumps and have a noise coming and going from my dash area by the steering wheel.
Told them if its not all sorted i will return the car.

Fella's

Interesting reading this thread. Sortv glad i am not alone i guess.

Heres my story:

1. Rear Suspension Noise (As many of you report)
There is a bubbling/clank when I drive over uneven terrains.
Took it to VW dealership, I went for a drive with the service manager, he noticed and said he will solve.
I gave them the TPI number that i got from international forums, but they said it is not relevant. The front has these noises, but not as bad (still should be fixed)
They "greased up" some parts and returned the car, and of course, PROBLEM NOT SOLVED.
VW SOUTH AFRICA have said they did not ever hear of this problem. :geek:

2. Front/Engine noise - faint noise, when accelerating at about 2500rpm
I have not took this in yet. It seems these guys will only do something properly if i give them all information in hand. Can someone give me the part/clip number for the wastegate rod clip. I will only take the car in when i have everything so there is no excuses from them

If you guys have any thoughts on my 2 issues, please let me know, I really need this sorted. I sold my G6 GTI for this G7 GTI - Its been really irritating thus far.

Hi YusGTI6

There is a TSB for the wastegate rattle that involves fitting a clip, a 2 min job and solves that problem.

As for the suspension noise apparently and im reading loads of information on it is an installation of a revised shocks and has a different part number to the standard part number this is for the rear of the car though. The noise you get at the front of the car could be 1 of 3 reasons:
1. Check there is no travel block/puck still in springs

2. If there is no puck front strut mounts are fubar, and I say this because mine were and problem disappeared after they were replaced. The carriers damage them when strapping the cars down to the trucks and breaks them, mine was done and is now sorted.

3. Check front right wheel bearing, a couple cars including my own was faulty, bearing was moving on drive shaft causing the clumcking sound, once replaced all sorted

Other than that no further problems. Sometimes leaving the car at the dealership for a while like I did 3 weeks long, it was enough time for the dealership to properly investigate the problems, I did just that and have no more problems, hope this helps

Thanks MGBotha - Very helpful

If anyone has the part numbers of the revised shocks please let me know. I have not known or read of anyone in South Africa who have solved this issue, only abroad. Is that the case?

Hi YusGTI6

I mailed my dealer askings them for the part number as they have ordered shocks for me, i just hope they the right ones. Going to check up on this.
Rear suspense noise has an updated TPI 2034188/5 already.

VWSA know about the issue but just dont want to admit it. Just got a call from them now asking me if the dealer has ordered Shocks.

Printing out these comments to take to them when they get the shocks.

No excuses from them this time they must just sort all my issues out.

Hi Dwr

I just sat with the services manager and went for a drive. I was able to replicate and again refered him to the TPI. He will look at it and check that the correct suspension part is on my car. I will keep you and everyone here posted with their progress. My car is with them now.

I did refer him to some of the comments here. As initially, I was told that the noise was normal from the dealership (Which i know its not and sat in quiet cars), and I was also told by VWSA call centre that this is a non-issue and they have not heard about it. Pointing them to people who have had this problem does help as they cant deny things that are happening.

I will not settle for a noise suspension on a Golf GTI. Honestly, my last 4 cars where GTI's and this is the first one I am really dissapointed with thus far. The car is a lovely car, if healthy. Mine is not healthy. I really enjoy driving my mates car!

Hi Vanesh

Are they ordering the correct shocks for you now?

I take it the Part Number: 5Q0513029DQ is for the original shocks?

I am still waiting for them to call me. Do you know the part number for the revised shocks?

Going to the dealer today to see that the part number on the shocks is different.

Part number on the shocks they ordered is the same as the ones on my golf now. 5Q0 513 029 DQ
The ones on my car have a 7/01/2014 manufactor date and the ones they ordered have a 31/05/2013 manufactor date.

So tell me now how can they be a revised shock if they where manufactored in 2013!!! Do they think i am stupid.

Tuesday morning a want to see what TPI: 2034188/5 says and hear what the service manager says about the 2013 shocks they ordered.

dwr,

Yes exactly.

The new shock either has to be a later date or a new part number as this is revised.

Unless they are using our vehicles as test vehicles.!!!

Guys. I went through every possible channel and most threads on this.

I finally got my car back on Friday from VW. The revised shocks were put on my car. This shocks is what is on the TPI.

My rear suspension noise is softer. However it is not gone completely. If i had to explain it, when goin on uneven terrain at slow speeds (done previously, exact road and speed), the noise is gone. BUT, if i go abit faster than before, 10km more, i hear the same noise.

Whilst driving is much better. I cant say confidently that the prob has been corrected and my gti is quiet on bumpy roads. Im going to try and live with it tho. Very hard to do so.
