iceblue wrote:Guys, as DJ Lost said, the one on auction is number 003. That is the third last one made. 002 and 001 are going to be put in the museums in Germany and Uitenhage. (I just signed my name on 001 this afternoon. I assume this will also be the one which goes to Uitenhage).

As for the price, I also think its ridiculous. But then again there are people that spend that much money on bottles of wine/whiskey, etc. And by the way, the money is going to charity, not to VW.

I compltetely agree...
had it been anythingels but charity id say u'd be stupid
but its for a good course so all well worth it
besides, its the last production mk1 ever produced, he might sell it for much more than that in years to come

It's more about the marketting ploy than charity unfortunately.

Remove the little stickers and what do you have.........A CITI. Give it a month at most & you will find aftermarket stickers at Autostyle or the likes that look like the "MK1" sticker, put it on your Citi Rox & now all of a sudden you have an "MK1" too. Nah, It's a Citi & it will stay a Citi.

Edit to add: Now think back not too long ago we got the Citi.:R. Now that was limited edition. Things set it apart from the rest. Bodykit, 1.8i Engine, bootspoiler etc. 100 odd made. That's special edition.

Well, they made the beetle for what, 40 years or so ? and from the 1st one to the last one they were all called beetle - shape changed slightly, but a beetle non the less. For a diehard MK1 fan a citi is something else - but the fact of the matter is (see how I used the word FACT) its a MK1 the end. (Citi MK1  )

Besides, its not called a Golf MK1. Its called a Citi MK1! Notice those are different names. Perhaps they have plans to call the next one a Citi MK2? :???:

It's not only the stickers that define it as a CITI MK1 it has a tag on the inside on the dashboard that also states what number of the 1000 it is. Interior is very nice and I think the only difference to your normal ROX or VELOCITY is the drivers airbag.

I think they pushed the production of these cars as far as they could and ran out of ideas, really is sad to see it go. Have you guys seen the replacement for the CITI segment it is really sad.

VW FOR LIFE!!!!

Anything after '84 is a Citi. And NO, the last production run "limited edition" is NOT an MK1! Deal with it!
I think I'll go with that

This MK1, Citi, Citi MK1 fight will go on for years & yeras to come. My point ....nevermind.

Let's just say that we will agree to disagree :hi:

Edit to add: The Citi MK1 is the bastard child/offspring of VW's marketting team. Not exactly a Citi (a few badges & plate on the dashboard saying MK1) but not exactly a MK1 (Nothing like a real MK1-Slant fenders, no "L" on back quarter, small bumpers chrome or plastic, brown dashboard etc)

I had a funny thing happen to me this morning - standing in Snake Road in Benoni there's a blue Citi Mk1 (Number 741) standing next to us, we were talking about it cause it's the 1st one we saw in the flesh. We proceeded to our destination about 10 k's further down the road. The guy that we had the appointment with rocked up in the same Citi we were eyeballing, we didn't even see it was him driving it.
Current rides:

VW Golf - 83 GT 2.1 16V 2-door with throttles
VW Golf - 78 LS 2.0 8V 4-door (2.1 ABF with throttles in progress)
VW Golf - '08 Citi Storm - 1.4 for now
Hyundai - 1.4 Getz (daily)
