Baron's Woodmead - STAY AWAY!!!

Post by Jueshen »

Guys,

please stay away from Baron's woodmead
as u all know by now ( if u read my prevouis post's) iv been having a little smokey issues with my pgti
i was away on business and missed my appointment with hatfield vw
so this morning i took it to barons just to get it looked at to put my mind at ease
get a phone call an hour later - sorry we cant work on ur vehicle - cat was removed and warranty work will not b covered
i thought ok ill come pick it up at lunch ant take it elsewhere next week
get there lunch time - service advisor tells me they have reported the mod to vwsa and my warranty has been void
felt like wringing his damn neck
well there goes my waranty and hope of anything being fixed if its major

Morne can u advise me - worst case scenario my turbo's on its way out, cant u motivate that the de-cat did not cause it?
the pgti is comming to ur shop on Tuesday

what a great birthday present i got hey - its all my fault :bang: :bang: :bang:

howzit bud sorry to hear about your warranty, yesterday i've decided to mail vwsa to find out about doing K04 upgrade on my GTI, so this was the reply,

"In the event that any upgrade is done by a third party, please note that Volkswagen of South Africa accepts no responsibility for after-market modifications or accessories. The vehicle warranty remains valid, except where the damage to your vehicleis related to the fitment of the accessory and / or modification. Claims made under this premise will be rejected in terms of the Volkswagen of South Africa vehicle warranty"

so tell them to take that warranty void and shu've it straight up their tailpipe, unless they can prove that the decat has caused the failure of the part you're claiming for. hope that helps

see if the decat was the cause of the lamda fail then you'll have to pay for it but i'll highly doubt that it was the cause of the turbo failure

To be honest, they will probably not investigate all possible causes of a fault and then decide whether or not to repair it under warranty. They're more likely to look at it and say that anything that is somehow connected to the modification is automatically void.

So if you change you front bumper to something after market and your tailgate starts rusting afterwards, they'll probably blame it on the bumper and say the entire body warranty was void when the bumper was changed.

I know that we sometimes think that the likes of De-cat etc will help with turbo longevity, but we all know that we are taking chances with doing mods and need to accept if the dealer finds out. That being said their are some dealers who will go out of their way to bust you which is not cool, but remember one thing...If they fail to report it and their superiors find out, then they are in trouble, so be mindful of this.
If you get away with it then its a bonus, but if not it was brought about by yourself.

They have every reason to not want to repair a fault possibly caused by a modification. Why should they pay for something that wasn't their fault? But at the same time I feel they need to treat the situation logically as well. It makes no sense to refuse to cover something under warranty when it is obvious the modification was not the cause. As in this case, the dealer immediately wanted to have the vehicles entire warranty voided! Whether or not the decat is the cause of your problems, I have no idea. But I feel that that was completely unreasonable!

Jueshen, I hope everything works out for you!

thanks guys
i just hope that hatfield has this covered for me - all these checks and inspections and stuff
i really dont wanna give them a hard time because of Barons
just gonna have patience which is what i did not have in the begining and it landed me in the position i am now
but once again im almost convinced at aint the turbo - no funny sounds, no power loss... may b its on the way out - very early stages, but in my limited nowledge of turbo's, i alwasy thought it either works or does not, so i would expect to hear grinding noises etc
or may b its the lamda
but lets just see what the pro's have to say - im just a network admin!! who sits literally in the basement for 11 hours a day! without seeing sunshine da whole day!

Guys this is where my head starts as a nother dealer knows and has reported this to VW i can't do anything to get warranty reinstated or even think of doing a claim as i will be in trouble AGAIN.

Once VW know about this and they have proof etc then i can't do nothing as i'm one of the idiots that work for a dealer and my word by them mans nothing. At this point they are not too pleased with me for more tha one reason.

Warranty states that if you modifiy a part it will be void and the items that it can affect.
They don't think like we do in tearms of cat makes turbo breather better etc.The car has to comply with eu emission and it was designed like that etc.I know where they come from etc.

Guys this is why i say take it to guys you can trust and look after those people. Also don't be fast to take it to just any dealer if you got mods and you want it looked at now.

VW at this point is giveing dealers a hard time at this point and they are scared to help guys as it can turn around and bite them.I help a guy out and only to find out his service hist is 10000km over due and that he was at a nother dealer who said they going to report his car.
Now i'm stressed as i put in a claim already and then he comes with all this to light when i ask for service history.

It was not fair on me or anyone else i'm trying to help.It is things like that that is going to mess up things.

Like i said contact me monday with chassi number and let me check warranty. In the meantime turn all ya stuff to stock.I will chat to you monday or over the weekend if you want to phone me.

I don't know if maybe this is just me, but with all the complaints of inefficient service/corruption and the likes, How exactly is it the fault of Barons Woodmead for YOU doing the decat, and then expecting them to pay for something out of warranty?

Granted there are still service advisors that overlook certain things and help a customer out, since they approve of the mods carried out and that it may have not caused the specific failure, but why flame a person/company for doing their job???

You think VWSA doesnt not know the number of modded vehicles out there? who knows how much they lose out everyday for fraudulent claims caused by mods?

You took the risk with the mod, you got caught out. deal with it! Its a chance everyone takes when they mod their car! Don't flame the dealer for no good reason!

P.S> I dont not work for, or even like dealing with them (for purely different reasons), but this thread is just useless.

So let me get this straight... you want people to stay away from this dealer because you modified your vehicle and as a result lost your warranty...

This does not make sense to me.

If you knowingly removed the cat, knowing full well that the warranty of the vehicle was still in place and could be compromised by this modification, how is this Baron Woodmeads fault?

They didn't do the modification.
They didn't tell you to do the modification.
The salesman more than likely explained and provided warranty documentation which also explained that certain modifications the the vehicle would void the warranty.

Seems to me that they would've done everything that they are required to do...

I am also pretty sure that there is something on the cat itself stating that the warranty will be void if it is removed.

You are the one at fault here, not them as far as I am concerned.

I wonder what the Dealer Principle at Barons Woodmead would say if they were given the oppurtunity to post a reply in this topic...

I think his point was simply that if you have any modifications, Barons Woodmead is not the branch to visit. Judging by his tone in the original post, he doesn't seem to be flaming the branch for voiding his warranty (although he is pissed) but rather just warning other to not go near there with a modified car.

Not the engine no... the power steering pump on the otherhand...

When I upgraded from the stock 14' rims to the current stock TDi 16's, I consulted with VW if there were any warranty implications.

In my particular case there was none because these were rims that VW themselves supplied with the Polo's. I was advised that I could go ahead and upgrade to the 16's because the power steering pump was the same through out the range 9N - 9N3 and had been tested with these rims.

Now if I could take the time to consult with VW about the warranty... why can't others?

Well in most cases you consult with your service manager not VW so if you then go and get your car serviced somewhere else they will have a different story...

And the VW rims generally are such a rip off...

If you talk to the VW Warranty services and get confirmation from them, no dealer can tell you otherwise...
If you take the confirmation to the dealer, the generally change their story.

Ultimately every dealership will consult the same place when it comes warranty issues.

You took a risk, you knew you were taking a risk, it backfired, and now you slate the dealer?

That's like exceeding the speed limit, getting a fine, and then saying that the cops are useless because you broke the law.
