RADIATOR FAN GOING NUTS - POLO CLASSIC 1.6 1997

Post by blake 420-69 »

Awe leka people,

The cars fan randomly switched on by itself now the other night, ran for 3 hours before I caught on and ended up disconnecting the battery terminal (negative first, i know). Now I know the fan is supposed to switch on when I turn the car off, it normally runs for about 9-10 mins and switches off by itself.

This happened to me twice in one month and both times the fans drained the battery. Now I have to disconnect the battery terminal every time I have to switch the car off because i just don't trust for the fans to drain the battery again. I was told it could be the fan relay switch but I dunno which fuse/switch to pull out under the dashboard.

Now I got some more information from chat GBT but I don't know how accurate this information so I'm coming here to double check. Its telling me to look for the Cooling Fan Control Module/Relay Box underneath the coolant expansion tank? I'm pretty sure I didn't any black boxie the last time I worked on the coolant tank so is this thing talking nonsense or what? it also says I should try disconnecting the connecter by the The Radiator Thermo Switch If the fan continues to run even with the thermo switch disconnected, then the problem lies within the cooling fan control module?

Anybody willing to validate this info or koppel some guidance there?
