Polo 9n making noise when accelerating

Post by Neeven »

Hello everyone

I have a 2007 1.6i Polo 9n, the past 2 days whenever I accelerate it has started to make ticking noise and the higher the speed the louder the noise gets and the steering starts to shudder. Also while driving if I press the clutch in or put the vehicle in neutral, the noise completely stops.

I went to a mechanic and he checked if I had gearbox oil, and I did but he said I should change the oil to a thicker grade oil and see if the problem persists and that hasn't helped.

Anyone experienced the same or know what could be the problem?

Thank you in advance

When my 9N did this it was an issue in the gearbox, think the diff in mine had started to collapse.

Took mine to 8V performance to sort out.

Quickest and easiest would be talk to them and maybe swap your box for one of theirs.

If your steering starts to shudder, together with a ticking noise, while accelerating, my first hunch would be that one of the CV joints is starting to fail.
First, I would inspect all four CV boots. Second, I would check the CVs for play by yanking on the driveshafts.

You were correct, I got the box stripped and the guy said the bearing on the diff collapsed aswell as the carrier bearing

Because one or more components inside are worn or defective
