Good day all
I have recently done a DSG retrofit in my Caddy.
After having lengthy issues as a result of poor workmanship from the one work shop after finally diagnosing and repairing everything and having the car driving, on the way home we suffered a mechatronics failure
Before I has the wiring done before the box went onto the engine I had replaced the previous mechatronics for a refurbished unit, was replaced due to a failing pressure sensor….
Now unfortunately my refurbished unit must have been improperly repaired or something causing it to fail on the highway
The symptoms I was having was:
- shudder in first and reverse
- going into neutral while accelerating
- loss of all gears
- holding onto gears for too long (when was working)
- bad shudder and stuck in park
I had the car towed to gearbox specialist shop where they diagnosed and said my mechatronics is faulty
Now unfortunately they have stock of what is referred to as a white pack mechatronics and what I need is called a black pack mechatronics
I’ve done extensive research and nothing has explained the difference between a white pack and a black pack mechatronics other than the fact that one is for a diesel and one for a petrol however when shopping for a new mech unit for the DQ250 it mentions nothing regarding wether it’s for a petrol or a diesel
So unfortunately I’m left with a immobile car until we find a black pack mech or a new gearbox.
Can someone please help me get a better understanding of this
Wether a white pack mech can work for my diesel car or what steps can I follow to get my car driving again without me needing to put the manual back in as that is my last resort.
Thank you

Shaun from geartronix is taking care of it
Looking into a gearbox exchange as they don’t manufacture black pack mechatronics units anymore otherwise I might ask them to try fitting a new white pack unit in my car

Re: Mechatronics issues
So little update so far…
I’ve done some research and came across a forum explaining the different variations and types of mech units from the DQ250 box which I will quote below:
Here is some information about 02E Hardware Numbers assignment:
GROUP "CXX" EARLY UNITS all with analog inputs (for speed signal, shift paddles or reverse light control) (used moslty 2003-2004 some of them have additional pins in connector
02E927770 E
02E927770 G
02E927770 K
02E927770 L
02E927770 M
02E927770 AA
GROUP "CXX" (2004 - 2006)
02E927770 AD - replaces all EARLY analog units because can EMULATE analog inputs.
02E927770 AE - used only on cars from year 2004 which DO NOT use analog signals anymore.
GROUP "EXX" (2007 - 2008)
02E927770 AJ - used as replacement for AE, CAN only, no K-Line anymore.
02E927770 AK - no information nor experiences til now. Very rare unit.
GROUP "FXX" (2008 - 2015)
02E927770 AL - replacement for AE, AJ
02E927770 AM - theoretically can be used on some cars which still needs AD, but special software versions are required.
02E927770 AT - replace AL
IMMOBILIZED UNITS used on MQB cars with UDS diagnostic protokoll.
Cannot replace NON-IMMO units, because of bootloader incompability.
02E927770 AN
02E927770 AQ
02E927770 AS
unfortunately most of these units cannot be swapped around however
People have tried and tested swapping out CXX units with FXX units and have been successful however when doing so the software that needs to be flashed must be from a FXX unit and not a clone from the previous CXX otherwise you will face issues.
And regarding the caddy of mine that I’m having issues with
I haven’t heard anything from geartronix as of yet so I am unsure if it had been repaired or not that is probably due to me being overseas currently and unable to receive calls.
So hoping for the best and that I’ll have a working car when I return.
