CITI GOLF STEERING FEELS LOOSE
Howsit guys
So i need some advise on possible reasons why my steering feels loose and i have to keep correcting when driving the car on the highway. I have replaced the steering rack with a brand new original VW rack from Barons. I have replaced Tierod ends. The guys who did the allignment said my rack ends are still fine and theres no play in it.
Can worn ball joints cause the car to wander? and make the car feel light and loose on the steering.
Any help will be appreciated.

The knuckle on the steering column is loose or worn.

Check the lower control arm rubbers and ensure the rear u-clamp that tightens to the floor board is tight.

Re: CITI GOLF STEERING FEELS LOOSE
Ok so the check list for this weekend is , ball joints, LCA bushes, steering knuckle and wheel bearings. There is something weird though, after doing the rack it was fine for about a month. I made a turn and heard a "GUNG" type sound then turned the steering again and heard "GUNG". After that the issue started.

Re: CITI GOLF STEERING FEELS LOOSE
Did you check the 2 u-shape clamps that lock the steering rack in place, to the car ? Also check the general area that those clamps bolt onto as it may have torn away from the body of the car.

Re: CITI GOLF STEERING FEELS LOOSE
Hi is it ok to come back to the conversation?
That "gung" noise I've heard before, it was on a vehicle with bad shock top mounts. The top spring support wasn't turning with the shock and the steering and was locked/siezed to the top mounting that's bolted to the body.
As the steering turns the shock, the spring winds up until it overcomes the tension and jumps/turns inside the strut assembly, "GUNG!"

Re: CITI GOLF STEERING FEELS LOOSE
There was no bearings, the previous owner literally removed everything, put nuts and then a lock not over. I replaced my steering rack and literally the whole suspension apart from that for nothing

Re: CITI GOLF STEERING FEELS LOOSE
On my wifes golf the low ball joints were super old and gave the steering a pretty loose feeling.
