Feel free to discuss and add your feedback, or ask questions on our plans!

Yours in VW

Can only VWCSA members join the events? The puppies in the park and the Hillclimb, as well as the Detailing day is a absolute MUST!

Guys.

So I heard that this years Dubrun will be held at the South Coast. Seeing as Ballito is in the North Coast, does this mean the traditional Beach Bums held on Saturdays is out as well?

That was the original plan, but the venue got taken out from under us. DubRun will be returning to the North Coast

Unfortunately we have had to cancel that event as the committee member who was in charge of the event did not finalise it before leaving comm. :( :(

Yes and no. As you'll remember from your time on the committee, some events can be handled by one member while others require the efforts of all to be a success.

We had bigger issues with said committee member and as short-staffed as the committee is this year, we elected to cancel the event rather than throw a sub-standard event together. I'm sure you remember how complicated arranging events can be and how sometimes one has to trust a committee member to fulfill their assignment due to the rest of comm tackling bigger tasks.

Rest assured that those who are interested in helping the club host events are doing so to the best of their ability, but are always open to assistance from anyone :hi:

Whilst that is in part true; this is not one of those events. TH is not complicated, doesn't take a huge amount of effort - and isn't as well attended as other events during the year (So don't need a full house of commit members). It is however a great event, those who do attend with their families enjoy it a lot - its closer to what the club should be representing. A place for everyone. its also been a staple event wise in the club history. It strikes me that out of the remaining comm members, this simple event is not possible, given the amount of time that was available to sort this out. The commit member you speak of left a while ago - and no backup plan for a simple event?

I say simple, because it really is. A couple hours on Google Maps to figure out a low friendly route with some fun stops along the way and a bunch of questions and someone to drive said route one day to make sure it works. At most this could take two days to sort out if need be. Yet, it can't be sorted out because one commit member has left the team?

If this was DR I would see your point clearer.

Don't take this personally, Sebz; I'm merely just trying to understand the full picture here. I was looking forward to this event.

Hi Rob. While I appreciate your constructive criticism as always, I don't think you understand how much time and effort actually goes into making the Treasure Hunt a success.

Yes, the comm member left a couple of weeks ago, but Ian also stepped down shortly after that and some additional members who originally offered to help have since withdrawn for personal reasons. This leaves us with one committee member besides myself who has previously done a treasure hunt and knows what it is about. Both myself and Dieter have been very busy on weekends, him with his day job and me with extra work.

Now what you just described was the less than perfect event that we decided to avoid: Just spending some time on Google Maps does not tell you if a route is low-friendly. Just driving the route once to make sure it works is certainly not good enough. Sure, we could have thumb-sucked an area, made up some questions, and driven the route, but that would not be the Treasure Hunt that, as you pointed out, the club is known to put on. A TH route should be driven at least 4 or 5 times to figure out if traffic will be an issue, to ensure the drive itself is not boring and the questions are fun and understandable without being too obvious, and to ensure that blemishes in the road are noted but most importantly, to be sure that the directions do not cause people to get unnecessarily lost. All of that takes numerous weekends to get right.

And then someone who knows nothing about the route should test it to make sure that all the above criteria have been met.

I don't take your questions personally at all - I would have loved to put the event on as I personally was looking forward to it too. It's a huge disappointment that we can't put it on. Hopefully next year's committee can pull it off in spectacular fashion.

Hi Johan. The club unfortunately no longer has a clubhouse / workshop of its own.
