heat gauge not reaching halfway

HI guys

recently did a radiator change on my citi 1.4 and put in the recommended G12 coolant but now the heat gauge isnt reaching the halfway point at all the most it goes to is a quarter , and right down on freeway driving .

could it be thermostat stuck open ??

Thermostat stuck open or not installed.

Can this damage the engine ??

Okay thanks and when replacing the thermostat does all the coolant get drained out as well ? or is there a way of saving the coolant ?

Do you know whether my citi 1.4i takes the 80 degree one or the 87 degree ?

Howsit guys i replaced the thermostat the heat gauge went up to halfway the day i replaced it , but the second morning it was doing the same thing heat gauge not coming up .

what else could be the issue ?

Did you fit the same type and size radiator?

What is the condition if the temperature sensor? Boil some water and put the sensor in the hot water with wiring still attached and check reading on gauge.

When sympthoms are as described above, is the radiator fan kicking in or any water boiling in water bottle.

yes fitted same type radiator and switch from goldwagen , only the thermostat is a motoquip part .

Is the temperature sensor located at the bottom of the radiator ?

No that is the fan thermo switch.

Temp sensor with 4 pin plug sits on the housing between no 3 and 4 sparkplugs.
