Cam info help

Post by cities 1.4+vat »

Hi
recently got my hands on a 272 cam for my ride the thing is i am not sure if it is a regrind or a genuine 272 cam
stamps on the cam are 'D 037 WTR' on the side its engraved 272
could someone shed sum light on this for me is it a genuine vw cam or a regrind
i did try and look up some info on the net but nothing conclusive
thanks

If its hand engraved its a regrind. There should be single letter on the cam, like a L or H stamped on it.

i also have a G cam and when i compare both you can see the lobes on the D cam is bigger so was wondering if it is indeed
a genuine vw cam.
i did have a 276 estas before and when i looked at it the 276 was also engraved on the side but it had the estas emblem
and everything

Without pictures it's hard but the numbers and letter you quote are VW standard markings so my guess is it's a regrind.

It's a std 1.6/1.8 MP9 cam that's been reground.

U say the lobes are physically bigger than the g.cams lobes? Don't think its a mp9 cam. If the lobes are bigger just by looking at it the chances are that its a solid lifter cam reground for a solid lifter application ie k.jet head. The old vw kombis came out with a solid lifter cam stamped D or L. As did early 1300 citi golfs.

Oh....if u wanted a custom cut cam done ud need a stock solid lifter cam as a base as it has much bigger lobes than hydraulic cam. This is necessary so that the large lobes can be accurately machined to hydraulic spec lobe off set, ramp angle and lift. Stock hydraulic vw cams don't have enough extra metal to perform the necessary modding
