My last long trip of around 1100km, I averaged 4.5 l/100km, but then my car was kinda loaded.
The trip above was to work. Between 80-100km/h and some residential areas. I've done a longer trip with 4 people in the car and got 4.4/l/100 driving around 100km/h. Making a game of consumption on commutes to/from work makes it more interesting.

Hi there
Received my Golf VII on Friday.
I have been playing with the media in connection but sometimes when I start the car the iPod is not recognized, it is plugged in and on but does not come up as a source ?
Anyone else had his experience and know what the cause is ?
Much appreciated

Hi, congrats on the new ride!
I've seen this once or twice, iPod is plugged in, but it only "wakes up" or gets recognised after a short period, after which everything works fine. Is yours completely not working?

while that is excellent fuel consumption its not representative for normal use as far as i can tell.
maybe kripstoe can tell us his secret to that super low consumtion?...and give us his OBC long term average l/100km?

here is fuelly's list for 2014 G7's and most are TDI's averaging 5.9l/100km: http://www.fuelly.com/car/volkswagen/golf/2014

against my car showing 6.6l/100km i'm about 10% above the diesel average but using petrol.
so at 25000km per year and about R1 per kilometer in fuel one might save 5% on the fuel bill by running the diesel which will not compensate for the additional extra initial cost of buying the diesel imho

if the diesel is more fun to drive due to extra power then its perhaps a better deal

My long term is currently at 4.6l/100km per OBD. I can send you the Excel sheets I've kept since new which puts it at 4.8 if I remember correctly. It is very consistent and indicative of normal day to day driving for *me*. I don't know how people are averaging 5.9 with the TDI. Without trying you can get mid to low 5s. Maybe they only do short distances.

Most days I get between 4 and 5. When I'm actively trying to get good consumption I can fairly easily get it down to low 4s. Below 4 becomes more tricky and requires concentration. But possible.

There's no secret to getting low figures. Anticipate traffic, brake as little as possible and keep momentum. And obviously don't make the rev counter go chase the limiter on pull away.

Being on my third TDI, I like the low consumption and the laid back nature of a diesel. I don't care about outright performance, but enjoy the torque and effortless way the car cruises. I was considering a GTI, but decided to stick to the middle segment TDI as it kept my payments low to still justify the diesel over a petrol. So I'm still saving. :)

Mine still does it, did it this morning. Could it not be something to do with the iPod software and something there that takes long to load the VW interface on it?
Had my radio updated a few weeks ago, so maybe not that.

Fark I don't know how you guys get such good consumption. Maybe its the DSG but the best that I have ever got is 5.6L/100 and that was going to Nelspruit

Easy, your car is a G7 and a TDi. Mine is not. Mine is a G6 and a 90kw TSi.
Just putting it out there that the TSI's are also good on fuel consumption seeing the the G7 TSi's have similar engines.

I have been wondering about getting mudflaps for my car. Not seen a Golf 7 with them fitted yet. That might convince me or not.

Ah. Ok.

I wasn't insinuating that petrol cannot be economical or that a G7 is more economical than a G6. Since this is a G7 thread, I just posted a picture of a G7 TDI consumption.
