Sweet. I was under the impression we need a new tool to be compatible with the Golf 7. Might need to make a plan to get me one.

The EGR sensors the Polo had is missing, but I still have to play around to see what possible other ones there are now. Just plugged it in and used it.

Vin no decode

Vehicle Identifier Section

The third and final set of digits, the group of eight from digit 10 to 17 inclusive, identifies the particular vehicle in question. They will identify the model year, the exact place where the car was made, and finally the unique serial number of that vehicle.

Digit 10: The model year. For Volkswagens, this is the year from 1 August to 31 July as before. The code begins with 1980, and assigns a consecutive letter or number for each year (except that I, O, Q, U, Z, and 0 are not used). The codes for year models are:

1980 - A

1990 - L

2000 - Y

2010 - A

2020 - L

1981 - B

1991 - M

2001 - 1

2011 - B

2021 - M

1982 - C

1992 - N

2002 - 2

2012 - C

2022 - N

1983 - D

1993 - P

2003 - 3

2013 - D

2023 - P

1984 - E

1994 - R

2004 - 4

2014 - E

2024 - R

1985 - F

1995 - S

2005 - 5

2015 - F

2025 - S

1986 - G

1996 - T

2006 - 6

2016 - G

2026 - T

1987 - H

1997 - V

2007 - 7

2017 - H

2027 - V

1988 - J

1998 - W

2008 - 8

2018 - J

2028 - W

1989 - K

1999 - X

2009 - 9

2019 - K

2029 - X

There are several logical consequences. There is no confusion between 1 and I, 2 or Z, or O, Q and 0. The characters repeat the sequence every 30 years, with ‘A’ beginning in 1980, 2010, 2040, etc. And, when the numbers begin after Y, the number coincides with the year.

Digit 11: This is the exact place where that Volkswagen was made. VW has tried to assign specific characters for each of its factories, although there have been some double-ups. If in doubt, consult Digit 1 which gives the region (see above). The codes are:

A - Ingolstadt, Germany
B - Brussels, Belgium
C - Chattanooga, USA
D - Bratislava, Slovakia
E - Emden, Germany
F - Ipiranga / Resende, Brazil
G - Graz, Austria
H - Hanover, Germany
K - Osnabrück, Germany
L - Lagos, Nigeria
M - Puebla, Mexico
N - Neckarsulm, Germany
P - Mosel, Germany
P - Anchieta, Brazil
R - Martorell, Spain
S - Salzgitter, Germany
T - Sarajevo, Yugoslavia (up to 1994)
T - Taubaté, Brazil
U - Uitenhage, South Africa
V - Westmoreland, USA (up to 1994)
V - Palmela, Portugal (from 1994)
W - Wolfsburg, Germany
X - Poznan, Poland
Y - Pamplona, Spain
1 - Győr, Hungary
2 - Anting, China
3 - Changchun, China
4 - Curitiba, Brazil
6 - Düsseldorf, Germany (Mercedes-Benz)
7 - Ludwigsfelde, Germany (Mercedes-Benz)
8 - Dresden, Germany
8 - General Pacheco, Argentina

Digits 12-17: Six digits, starting with 000001 for each vehicle of the defined make, model, year and factory. This is the unique identifying number for that vehicle.

Start: 000001 Possible end: 999999

mine will have a W for Wolfsburg, Germany...my dealer has one on his floor with a P in that location and as far as he's aware its from Germany so according to the list in the above post that would mean Mosel, Germany which has the 'P' as does Anchieta, Brazil.

That is entirely possible. Did some more reading as I wanted to create a simple VIN decoder. You have to take the tenth letter in combination with the first three.

WVW - Volkswagen Cars
WVG - Volkswagen SUVs (Gelande)
WV1 - Volkswagen Commercials
WV2 - Volkswagen Bus, Van
WV3 - Volkswagen Trucks
VWV - Volkswagen Spain
AAV - Volkswagen South Africa
1VW - Volkswagen USA (cars)
1V1 - Volkswagen USA (commercials)
3VW - Volkswagen Mexico
8AW - Volkswagen Argentina
9BW - Volkswagen Brazil
WAU - Audi
TRU - Audi Hungary
93V - Audi Brazil

It's actually quite simple.

Mine is dead quiet or quiet enough that I cannot hear it over the normal engine noises. Can you still hear your rattle from inside the car?

The 1.4 TSI is quite a noisy engine. I think you might be hearing the valve lifters as well.

Yes the noise is completely gone, let them check it for play on the actuator rod.

I'm happy with my Golf 90 TSI, the roof lining replaced and looking good and the waste gate linkage fixed. The only trouble I have still have is with the FM radio reception, if I go 20klm out of town it's hopeless, fading in and out all the time .
It seems the next model up Golf the one with the reversing camera doesn't have this problem, I found this video on U-Tube and the actual head unit is in the Glovebox, it wouldn't be such a drama to exchange this unit with the better specked head unit from the next model up.

1. Rattle from the wastegate
2. Poor reception on the radio
3. Drivers window makes noise going up/down

However when i heard the rattle of the wastegate and took it in the guys at Barons say its normal, and as for the radio they saying im the only person complaining.

Just show them this thread and tell them to stop talking sh*t, they are well aware of the problems, if they don't they need to read their emails or the TSB's that are still sitting in the fax machine

Hi Everyone,

I took delivery of my Golf 7 1.4 DSG about a month ago. It has around 1,600 km on the clock.

Been having the same problems as most of you:

1. Noisy Waste Gate
2. 5.8" Composite Radio - poor reception

VW Fourways added the clip and the noise was gone for a few km's but now its back. Can't imagine that they put a MK6 clip on because as far as I know VWSA released a clip for the MK7. This really worries me. I don't want to be one of those customers that constantly spend time at the dealership. I had that with my Toyota Auris and can't have it again. Any advice?

I haven't reported the bad reception on my radio yet. Do any of you know if the software update is available yet?

Thanks a lot!

Welcome to the forum. The clip for the MK6 and MK7 looks quite a bit different. If you do a search in this thread you can find photos of both. That might help you narrow down the re-occurrence of the noise. I still have the release software running on my radio but with a few tweaks from VW. Reception problem is still there however. I know there is a software update available on SD card which the dealer can order for you but not sure if that helps with the reception. A handful of people here had it loaded. Maybe they can give us some feedback?

Thanks Dawie,

You'd think that they would use a MK7 clip, but one should never assume these things I suppose. I'll go back to them.

I'll ask them about the software and if there's any new news I'll post it.

I had the software loaded. Dealership had to order the SD card from the factory. It certainly made a difference to the reception in town where previously the radio would literally lose reception when you turned left/right at a traffic light. Seems to be holding on to signals a lot better now, to the point where I don't notice any reception issues in town.

Hi guys,

With regard to the Reception story (saga) i must be honest i haven't had a days trouble with the reception (in town, long trips into the bundu), the only difference i can pick up is that i have a reverse camera instead of PDC, i might be that this piece of kit makes a difference,
