I have found two more problems. I can't switch off the rear interior lights and they stay on when driving which is very annoying when it's at night. I listen to my USB drive mostly now because the FM reception is that bad and I get sick of it fading in and out but when I stop the car and then restart it the USB goes back to the first track on the list all the time and not the last song played.
I have a petrol 90TSI and I was told to always run Premium 98 octane petrol but it's much dearer than the standard grade 91octane, so I have settled on 95 octane, what grade do you use in SA.?

We only have 93 and 95 octane. Sure most guys run 95.

Thanks I just checked the petrol price and 91 Octane is $1.49@ Litre, 95 is $1.62, 98 is $1.64@ litre. So it looks like I might as well stick to 98 Octane

Hi Rpps,

the interior light problem can be, you have switched the rear interior lights from the front, you can operate the rear interior light from the front so double check that, or the rear interior lights is on teh on position or one of the door closing switches in stuck or not working at all, check those first and then i'll think you'll come right.

MaruisB, just double check that your seatbelt is all the way in, the autohold won't work unless you have the seat belt in. Sometimes dirt in the actual casing causes that, so double check.

Thanks for the tip after a trip to the VW Service Det. They played around with the front light switches and was able to turn the rear lights off. I will try not to touch these switches again.

They are there to be played with, just check the pictures on the switched, the one nearest you is for the rear interior switch, just depress it and vwalah, all sorted.

I just sent my 1.4tsi in for the wastegate rattle and the poor radio reception , the rattle will be sorted out the parts on back order but VW says there is no software update for the radio ? is that true ?

I tried mine out and it does dim but I did that at night not too sure about the day time

If the lights behind you is brighter than that of the light coming from the front (ie. the sun), it will probably dim.

So its been about two months now since my radio was updated.

And these are my comments.

It worked well for a while about a week or two. Then the radio signal started going bad. So I hard reset it by holding in the power button for 10 seconds. Then it improved.

Some days its good, some days its bad. Some times I have to reset it 3 times in a row before it comes right. Sometimes its starts up tuned to completely the wrong station or not tuned at all. And then 5 seconds later it will tune the station I previously listened to.

The RDS feature doesn't always work properly. Manually tuning to another regional station also improves the signal quality. What I cant understand is that why it sometimes works and in other cases not.

Is anyone else experiencing these difficulties since they have had the RDS features enabled?

I'm gatvol. And I really don't feal like having to hound VWSA for answers again!

I listen mostly to music on my SD card or iPod, but the radio reception does seem to be less than optimal. I'll wait for official word from the dealership as I'm not convinced that the advanced/RDS settings is "the fix". I'll just keep complaining as/when I'm at the dealership until they're tired of me.

I'm still waiting for a software update here in Aus. for my radio, I live in the city and with all my other cars (Japanese) I never had a problem with poor FM reception, I only have to go behind some tall buildings or a slight hill and the signal fades out. I find the AM reception fine and I tend to listen to that more, you would think if you can pick up AM OK that the problem must be with the radio itself and software. I have the advance menu enabled and I have also noticed when I first start the car that the radio takes about 5 sec. to tune in and pick up the station.
I might try the hard reset like you mentioned and see if there's any difference, surely you would think that VW would have a fix for this annoying thing by now.

I have one problem with my VW Golf I would like to solve. I have the base model 90TSI and it comes with standard 15"steel wheels, I recently fitted some new 15"mag wheels and I used the same tyres the car came with as I didn't want the expense of new tyres after forking out so much for the car ($A25,500).
Since fitting the new wheels I have notice a vibration coming through the car which is more noticeable at higher speeds, I had the wheels re-balanced and a couple were out a bit but one tyre the service guy said had a lot of high and low spots on it. He said also the wheel centering rings weren't fitting snug and had a little bit of play to them.
I'm not sure what next to do, try and get closer fitting wheel centering rings, buy a new tyre to repace the out of round one. Here's a photo of my car and the new wheels.[img][IMG]http://i1112.photobucket.com/albums/k49 ... f2c50c.jpg[/img][/img]

Hi Guys,

The first 5000Km in my car:

I live in KZn and daily travel between Ballito and Mount edgecombe.
From Ballito to Mount edgecomber Fuel comsuption Average is around 6.4L/100km.
From Mount edgecombe to Ballito Fuel consumpriotn average is around 5.4l/100Km.

The other is driving around 100 to 120KM/h and also stop and go. No racing but the sometimes to about 160Km/h

The handling in the car is great, except for the supsnesion noise which I think, might be normal as when I took a VW technician with, he said this is the travel fo the wheel,but will have to book the car in but who knows and I don't have the to keep on going to the dealership.

I love just crusing and when someone comes up against me, I just drop two gears with the paddle shift and say good bye. The 90kw is enough power for now.

The there is the clip for wastegate rattle- Still waiting
The Rear LED Tail lights still waiting
The radio software does not bother me much- With the daily trip even when the reception is poor at one spot only, it is still ok
The driver side window, noise- this might just need some lubricationas it is not allt he time, amtbe after ten openings, it happens once.

Other than that I love the car as I am saving fuel

Just for interest for those of you rolling on 16" rims, if you had to change what would you change to and what size would you change to, i would like to go for at least 1 size up but not to sure if a 17 or 18? Any suggestions.

Also if any of you know of anybody wanting to sell their 17" Dijon wheels to let me know, if i could get a set of those it would be a no brainer.

Dawie, Ja mine was good for a week or so. Its got nothing to do with the antenna. Mine was tested and it was all fine. I previously drove a golf 6 and the reception was perfect along the same route.

I am starting to think that it is more of a hardware problem with their power on reset/ come out of sleep mode with what ever IC they are using to do the demodulation. There also seems to be an issue with the automatic gain control in the IF stage of the radio. If I disable the RDS then there should be no reason at all that when I lose signal along the route and if I drive back two the point where the signal was good then it does not recover.

Only when I hard reset it at the point with good signal, then the radio normalizes. However it seems that I am running out of my quota of hard resets. As it now only seems to intermittently work. This last week I have to reset it at least 3 times in a row before it comes right.

Surely in the 6 months I have had the car they would have be able to issue a proper software update and not just re-enable the RDS feature that they must have disabled because it did not work properly.

I paid for a radio that works. Perhaps now it is time for VW to reimburse me for it. Because simply it just does not work.

When I checked End May, the price went up R5000 and now I see the price went up another R5000.

R10000 is two months and still there are issues with, radio, Wastegate.................

Yes, I have tried every setting enabled and disabled. We can go round in circles, disabling, enabling settings, yet all we can do is come to the conclusion that radio does not work properly.

It does not do what what a basic radio receiver without RDS features should do into the first place i.e. receive a clear signal at the same geographical position. If I put it in fixed frequency mode and drive from an area with good signal to an area with bad signal the audio quality gets bad. In theory if I drive back to the area with good signal quality then the audio should improve. Yet this doesn't always happen. It gets stuck in this bad reception mode. You can try and change the station, settings, but nothing works except a hard reset. which in total waste 30 seconds of my time.

The RDS A/F feature does improve it slightly yet it still gets stuck in this mode.

What is now weird for me is that this hard reset appears to have stopped working all the time. So now I just sit with **** radio reception most of the time and listen to mp3s

Its interesting to note what the Germans are saying, last I check there was middle of May which is when I had mine updated

Ofc i will get right into the problem:

I got also the 2 most heavly discused issues:

1. wastegate clip - my dealer didnt even know about this issue until me - allready sent a complaint and waiting answer.
2. rear noise suspension - on low speeds on road bumps. didnt do any complaint yet, i am waiting to see how it evolves.

First of all i want you to ask if it is safe to drive the care until i get my wastegate clip fixed ? can something bad happened ? what did ur dealers say about this

Second of all any1 heard anything about what the rear noise might be. mine seems to be coming from the trunk.
