Hi Vannie and welcome to the forum.

Have you considered the Comfortline 2.0 TDI? It is slightly more expensive than the Comfortline 1.4 TSI DSG. Personally I would go for that but otherwise the Comfortline 1.4 TSI Manual, with the extras you mentioned, would also be a good option. Both the Highline 1.4 TSI and Highline 2.0 TDI feels overpriced to me.

I have never owned a car with a sunroof so I cannot comment there. Must say though it improves the look of the car a lot but I can see where your concerns come from.

Saw a white Golf 7 on the road the other day and does not look bad at all. I love the Tungsten Silver colour but I have found that is chips very easily.

My Polo 6R GTI had the 7 speed DSG gearbox as in the Golf 7 and I loved it until it started giving issues. Not sure if this will be the same for the Golf 7 but I steered clear of it just in case.

If you take the optional rims and tyres what do they do with the originals that were on the car?

I have driven almost all of them and it comes down to price at the end of the day. I agree the 2.0TDI is very expensive but if you prefer that then good for you but after looking at all the options myself i looked at a couple factors. The only difference between the 1.4 tsi Highline and the 1.4tsi comfortline is this. The chrome strip on the air intake, the 17" Dijon rims and the sport seats and of course the 103KW and the Piano black finish, BUT if you take the 1.4tsi Comfortline you can have all of what the Highline has except for the Chrome on the Air intake and the 17" Rims and the 103KW. If you chose the Highline you would put in leather in any case, well putting leather on the comfortline gives you sport seat and the front seat heating, this just leaves the rims now and the chrome intake strip, you can purchase a replica set for about 8k with tyres and i've checked with my dealer it won't affect warranty, so this only leaves the Black Piano finish and the 103kw, i prefer the brushed silver over the Black piano finish (scratches are more noticeable) imo. The ride height between the Highline and the Comfortline is identical so the sport suspension is under the body work and you wouldn't notice it except for handling i suppose. So putting 17" on later will look the same as the Highline. so to be honest in my opinion the Comforline DSG would be the pick of the bunch and most dealer principles of VW that have driven all the models would agree with me but wouldn't tell you that cause they want your bucks , Aslo the DSG box in the Golf 7 is not the same as the Box that was in the Polo, i've researched that one as well. I aslo love the smooth gear changes and the less fuss with having to clutch all the time especially in traffic. Aslo if you do purchase the Highline over the Comfrtline and add all the extras you'll be very close to the 2.0TDI price. But if you take the Comfortline and spec it up with everything as i have you'll only be 11k over the Highline standard price and this would include, Leather, Xenon, Sunroof, upgraded Radio, Ipod connection, rear view camera, foldaway towbar, and the light assist package. Try putting all that on the Highline and it will be alot more Tom.

Any case i've said my say, just my opinion, let us know what you decided!!!

Which chrome strip are you referring to? My car has a chrome strip on the grill if that's what you mean..

I have read so many conflicting reports on 103 kW motor. Some say it is turbo only motor and others say it is twin-charged motor. Anyone have the final word on this?

The 1.4tsi in the Golf 7 is definately a turbo only motor, the MK6 motor was twin turbo, the 118kw motor was fantastic but very problematic, the problem was when the turbo kicked in there was an overlap between the 2 and that wrecked the motors so VW droped the twin turbo and stuck with 1 turbo only for the MK7, comfortine 90kw and 103kw only difference is ECU mapping no extra turbos as opposed to the old 1.4. Also the problem with the 7 speed DSG initially boiled down to the fact that the 7 speed dry clutch couldn't handle more than 240Nm. That's why they opted for the manual gear box in the Highline and not DSG. As for the 6 speed DSG it's a we clutch and can handle the torque above 250Nm that's why it's in the 2.0TDI. Also the 1.4 tsi Highline in Europe is 103Kw but lower Nm's for the 7 speed DSG.

True, at launch, wheels24 reported the highline as having the twin-charged motor. The VWSA website and brochures make no mention of it. The spec sheet ticks of turbo and no mention of twin charge.

Would be interesting to know why the twin charged was dropped in the golf 7 and still is sold in the polo gti, if this is the case?

@Dawie: I think the 2.0L TDI Comfortline will be a tad too lazy, but I will never know untill I had a testdrive in it. Regarding the rims/wheels...the dealership told me that they will order the 17" Dijon rims and then fit it once the vehicle has arrived. They will then try to sell the 16" original rims somewhere. However, you never know if you'll get your money and how long it will take.

@mgbotha: Some very good points you made there on your reply. Black piano finish looks better to me but the brushed silver is more practical.

- Where can one purchase replica rims? Either 17" Dijon or Madrid rims.
- Would like to hear the other owners opinion of the panoramic sunroof.

THis is what it says, so it seems the Highline is twin charged but is conservatively at 103 KW because i heard the 118kw had problems with the overlapping between the super charger and the turbo.

Vanesh i saw the photos and they are Xenon, i'll look for the phot where it shows the differernce between the standard and Xenon package, then i'll forward the link.

I'm currently waiting for and ETA on the 17" Dijon replica rims from a place here in Cape Town, they however do have almost everything else, like the Watkins Glen, the R8 replica rims and alot more, and they advertise on gumtree, i was there and they can get you pretty much anything you want and won't have to sell a kidney to get it either, VW take the piss with the Price of the OEM Rims amost R35k with tyres, you must have your head checked if you're actually considering it. I ordered the panoramic sunroof myself, the one thing that is different from the MK6 is the slider panel which is more like a mesh and not padded like it was in the MK6, i suppose it would be cool in the beginning but then would probably be a novelty after a while, but i do find when parking it with it slighlty open definately cools the car especially when parked in the parking lot for hours. One thing is when you're trying to resell it later on it's definately a selling point and adds just that little more value to the vehicle, also the maintainance on these new ones is far less and apparently has a better seal.

The highline definitely is the better choice then if opting for manual, if it is twin charged. Like the polo gti, the power delivery will be a lot smoother then the turbo only, there will be no lag and that makes the car so much better to drive, especially in traffic and when driving sedately.

Pity no dsg option on the highline?

I would also think it would depend on where you live, if you're in JHB being a higher altitude i would also be inclined for the Highline but here on the coast teh 90kw is sufficient, but then again it would depend on what types of driving conditions you are in, i.e. rush hour traffic, highway travelling or robot to robot.

Hi,

The latest on the Xenon and LED Tail Lights.

VWSA phoned me at around 1PM to say that the reason for no LED Tail Lights is due to a shortage in Germany.

I have since logged a complaint with VWSA customer care and await a response..

They also said that the LED Tail Lights is only going into production end May 2013

So they have confirmed that the Rear are not LED, if so are they going to replace the rear tail lights with LED or give your money back? This is absolute **llsh*t , have u got a picture of what it's supposed to look like? I've been searching all morning for a comparison between the standard and the LED's and can't find anything.

I will have to wait- as their turn around is 24 hours for feedback

I don't have a picture of what it supposed to look like, I even checked the Volkswagen magazine that was given at the launch.

I guess we will only see the LED tail lights when the first ones reach us in probably August

Either way, they cocked up but charged you full price for them, i would demand either my money back or a written acknowlegement that they will be replaced as soon as possible.

I've just emailed my Dealer Principle about this and told him he needs to find out what the hell is going on and that i know of this issue, they can't bullsh#t me about it, i'd rather we get an answer now before it arrives here and know what to do rather that **** then.
