Great to see some more Golf 7 owners joining the discussion. I have some close up photos of the wastegate arm and linkage in my rides thread linked in the second post. It do not think the Golf 6 clip will help us.

Mine was fixed today. Apparently they did fit a clip, not sure if its the same as the Golf 6 though. I'll drive it later to check out for myself but my wife said much better now.

That is great news. Let us know after your drive if it is totally fixed. Also if possible could you take a photo or two of the wastegate arm? Maybe we can spot the modification.

I am about ready to tear my Lindsay Saker dealer a new one.

Looks as if mine is not 100% sorted but much much softer than it used to be. It was done by Barons Culemborg.

Would I be able to take a pic from the top of engine bay?

I was behind a Golf 7 TSI ytd and it took of very spiritedly. I was quite surprised how well it squatted down and took off. After a brief moment of reflection, I decided to give chase and reeled it in. They seem quite quick in 1st and 2nd. At the moment, I'm not liking the rear of the Golf 7 but I suspect that the rear apron of the GTi will sort that out.

It is at the back of the engine but rather far up so easy enough to take a photo. Just lean over the engine and you will spot it.

Did you try the clip on Golf 7's or other Golf 6's?

Ok I have had my golf 7 nearly two months now.

The car has been in twice for the radio. Nothing has helped. And it still has this highly annoying rattle coming from the wastegate.

As I said I escalated it to VW SA but still no resolution. I decided to go and inspect other new golfs today and I asked the salesman if they had any problems with bad reception on the other cars they had been selling. And he said no.

The dealerships standpoint is that the radio requires a yet unavailable software update. I decided to compare the radio models when I was there and to my surprise the hardware and software revisions different, whilst the part nos are the same.

My cars details:

Part no: 5G0035819
Hardware: 038
Software: 0130

And the 2 brand new golfs on the floor were:

Part no: 5G0035819
Hardware: 039
Software: 0142


Perhaps the guys also experiencing problems can post your radio models number here?
If anyone is not experiencing problems and would wish post to theirs here too, then I can make a quick comparison for when I go back to VW to try and get my radio replaced.


Lastly I also inspected the wastegate linkage on the one golf on the dealership floor. It was tight with hardly any play and no rattle.
In comparison mine is loose and has a lot of play, and rattles when moved by hand.

The dealerships standpoint currently is that the rattle on my car is normal. Surely then the wastegate linkage on the new car should also be loose and rattle?

weird that is seems only local guys complaining about the radio, not seen it mentioned it anywhere else, but a lot of local guys seem to have the issue.

Great idea William1234 and thanks for the info on both issues. As for the wastegate linkage issue, my car did not have this rattle driving off the showroom floor or within the first 500 km. So it might be that the wastegate linkage develops some play after extended use only? What is weird is that I cannot find any other complaints on the internet about this issue for the Golf 7. Only the fix for Golf 6 GTI.

Hi All,

Having the same problem with the rattle. Below is a response I have had about a week ago but not with a resolution yet. Almost 2 months of have the car.

"Our VWSA Regional After Sales Manager is currently at the VW factory visiting the technical department with regards to the noise that you are experiencing on your New Golf7. We have received feedback from the manufacturer who have advised that the noises being experienced is caused by the bypass flap on the turbo charger. Further investigation will be carried out and the dealer network will be informed of the repair process."

Thanks for the photos Esham. That looks like the Golf 6 clip. Nice to see that is fits the Golf 7 as well. You mentioned it still rattles when moving it by hand but is it any better while driving?

With regards to the radio, mine loses reception every time I start up in my garage or the driveway for a few seconds then goes back to normal.

That is normal when switching on. The radio tunes to the first entry in the station list and then a few seconds later it tunes to your favorite station selected on the screen.

I have a manual.

Maybe call Barons Culemborg and see if they can help. The new Audi A3's have the same problem apparently as well.

Here is an extract from a letter I received back after logging a complaint with VWSA:

Thank you for contacting us.

We appreciate your feedback in respect of the following concerns:

1. poor radio reception; and
2. noise from engine compartment.

Volkswagen Germany is currently investigating the possibility of improving
the situation. There is no definite timing at this point, however, a service
representative from ***dealership I bought my car from*** will notify you as soon as the
process is finalised.

We understand the situation is not ideal and wish to emphasise that there is
no compromise on the vehicle’s reliability and safety.

We thank you for your patience in this regard.

Esham how is the fix going? Had a call today, doing the same fix to my golf seems like that is the solution.

The noise is still there but not as prominent. Maybe the Golf 6 clip does not secure it as its supposed to..

Damn, not many happy Golf 7 owners here. This should be renamed the Golf 7 Owners Complaints Corner. I'd expect at least a few guys to be saying how much they're enjoying their 2013 Car of the Year. I hope VW sorts out all these issues asap.
