Yep, that's the main thing.

There are going to be loads of little fiddly things though, like a shorter clutch cable for one. That you'll also have to import, or get made.
Cool. So I might do it one day. Little bit of fabrication but this is simple. Jusyt a rack....

Looks like mabye this rhd rack could also work. From just briefly looking as one of my spares, you cut all the gear linkage bracket off, flip rack around and we'll em back on. Then just a bit of a mod with the one mount to round the square side and square the round saide so the mount will fit correctly and wala...

And if I follow what you are saying correctly then that will also very neatly reverse the direction the wheels turn. So when you twirl the wheel to the right the car will turn left. THAT Should take a bit of getting used to.

My bud hooked me up with a LHD pedal cluster.

The following will be needed.

LHD steering rack
LHD brake booster
LHD steering column
new clutch cable
wiring might be an issue

apparently there is a guy who specialises in this conversions and I believe a MK1 is easy to do this on

and now for the good news, all these parts can be ordered from VW SA at around double the price of RHD parts, the clutch cable cost about R 300.

On the clutch cable, just use the newer velo clutch cable that's mutch shorter than a normal mk1 so wil work, and the pedal box should be the same and the booster braket then bolts just directly too the brake pedal with 2 bolts, just cut the not needed bits of,the wiring all run from the fuse box so all the wires wil now be too long , the steering rack should also be the same,u just need the lhd steering rack, and to drill a sh@t load of holes in the firewall.

Not sure of the price of the steering rack, but I will go check up at VW Mooi street next week
