The one thing i hated about the most of the vw boxes was the drop in rpm from 1st to 2nd. The shorter 2nd on the aen will help with this."
I've read that a guy with about 200kw and 300nm ATW uses an AUG gearbox with a button clutch successfully. So I take it the AUG is a strong gearbox, so how does mine compare to it in that aspect? Thanks

Howzit
I dont know where you got the info but an AEN box and an AUG's ratios are way different! I had an AUG in my MK2 which broke so the temperery replacement is the AEN. strength wise so far i would say AUG as it feels more solid and works better with quick shifting. Either way the AUG wins.

Re: AEN vs AUG gearbox strength-wise
Neither box should be stronger? The only difference is ratios. VW 020 diffs like to come to pieces with plenty HP and wheel spin that's the weak point

Re: AEN vs AUG gearbox strength-wise
Hav 2 agree. Boxes are equal strong. Just difrent ratio's. My golf has popd 2 rivets to date on the diff. So ya. I recon thats the weakpoint! Running a O2M 6spd diff and pinion shaft in my 020 4spd case. Cut the pinion off after 4th, to fit. I would say thats quite strong! But didnt do 4 strength, did 4 ratio. From the std 3.94? cnt remember, to 4.26.

Re: AEN vs AUG gearbox strength-wise
Hi guys. My AUG box broke on my 2l 16v Mk2. I haven't opened it completely but it looks like the rivets got loose on the transfer case and it grinded all 5th gear teeth. Is there a way of strengthening the rivets so that it doesn't happen again.
Anyone willing to donate a broken AUG. I just need 5th gears as the ratio was good
Thanks
