MK6 Jetta 1.6 TDi Limp home mode and P0087 code

Post by LengaMK6TDI »

Hello guys,

I need your help. I have a 2016 MK6 Jetta, 1.6 TFi with 186k on the clock. The car started giving me a P0087 code, pretty common code which is a low fuel pressure on the common rail.
I replaced the pressure sensor to make sure it wasn’t faulty, had the HPFP and injectors tested. One injector had too much leak back so the injectors were cleaned and it was replaced
. Problem still persists and the common rail was switched with and the problem remained, so it’s not the pressure regulator either. The tests showed that the pump gives out 250 bar but the pressure fluctuates a lot. The car was tested at various diesel places and dealers in both Namibia and Cape Town bit so far JP one could solve this issue.

This limp home problem is worse when the car is hot and I also noticed that out of nowhere the ideal will just go to 1000rpm and the car would pulsate, then minutes later it’s back to 900rpm. The car vibrates slightly when you idle and this isn’t all the time either.

I’m really out of options as to what else could be wrong. Someone told me that it could be a software issue, anyone had that experience before? I’m considering also removing the CAT, cause I suspect that’s blocked too at this mileage now. Important to note that is that this problem hardly occurs when the weather is cold, but when it’s hot it’s worse, also that when it goes into limp mode, it momentarily lose power like you feel it but then you can still drive to over 2000rpm where the limp mode normally occurs. I’m blurping here but you can tell the desperation to have answers, please help. Thank you

Okay guys so this is sorted out. the problem was that the fuel lines on the fuel filter housing were swopped. The return from the common rail and the fuel feed line that connects to the metering valve on the high pressure pump. Lines out back on their respective ports and bang, this baby once again drives like she just rolled out of the assembly line.

Anywho, I am planning to do a CAT delete and a stage 1 software tune, anyone done this on a 1.6 TDi here to tell me how they respond? Also suggest reputable diesel tuners in Cape Town.

Speak to Thanas as per his message, he does software tuning and he tuned all my cars.
