Golf1 Brake light bulbs
Hi, I was wondering if there's a work-around the issue of golf 1 using newer bulbs for the brakes as they don't seem compatible. I don't think they make proper contact.

Re: Golf1 Brake light bulbs
I am assuming you mean the entire new type tail light cluster, as opposed to just the actual bulbs?

Re: Golf1 Brake light bulbs
That's what I'm thinking, must be the cluster because bulbs are universal.

Re: Golf1 Brake light bulbs
Hi all, no it's the bulbs I'm reffering to. I thought they were universal too. I had to fiddle with them to work concurrently not 100% though. Without lights it'll work but with lights only one side works it's kinda weird though. I also swopped the bulbs with some older type bulbs. If I use the newer type bulbs they fail. Now I can't find these older type bulbs.

Re: Golf1 Brake light bulbs
I really don't understand the problem here. Could you perhaps elaborate a bit more?
The bulbs, "old type" or "new type" are the same. Are you referring to standard glass filament bulbs or LED bulbs?

"Without lights it'll work" - - What exactly works without lights?
"but with lights only one side works" - - What exactly works on only one side?
If there are sporadic and weird errors, like one system influencing the other, then more often than not, the problem lies with corroded contacts and/or a bad earth connection.

Look up where it explains how to upload pictures to the forum.vwkd wrote:Hi all, no it's the bulbs I'm reffering to. I thought they were universal too. Post pictures of what you are trying to do and then we can get a better idea of how to help you.
Also give us a better description of which car you are working on. This information will help us work out what you need.
You may also have a bad earth/ground for the lights at the rear. Lift up the carpet in the boot on the left side as well as the left side panel carpet, you will find the ground point halfway along the chassis rail, 2 or 3 brown wires will be screwed into the body. Clean all of them with some sand paper and acetone and screw them back tight.
Boot seals on a Citi love to leak and this ground for the rear lights is a common point of failure from corrosion.
