1.4 TSI Low oil pressure

Post by Shane@67 »

Hi All,

We have been having trouble finding a fault. We have a 2011 1.4TSI Golf 6. The engine was redone pretty much replacing everything.

Big end bearing
Valve guides
New timing chain kit
New oil pump due to trying to fault find.
The list goes on.

All ports are clean and there doesn’t seem to be any cracks or leaks anywhere we can see. All bearings have been tested and are perfectly to spec.

From cold start the pressure is 1.5 bar once at running temp the pressure dips. We have tested it with a mechanical gauge and it drops below 0.4 at running temp.

I have seen a lot of post with the same problem but no solutions.

We are at a loss. We replace everything we could think of and the exercise has become very costly.

Has anyone had this issue and been able to fix the problem.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Did you make use of plastiguage when checking for engine clearance?

Yes everything is correct. Engine was taken apart a second time to make 100% sure again.

Tried an OEM pump and an aftermarket pump no difference. Pressure in the bottom of the engine going to the filter seems normal we retrofitted a gauge to test it. It must be a problem in the head or cam box. We are leaning towards cam box.

If you saying the bottom end has enough pressure, and the problem is in the head, perhaps a gasket issue?

I've seen issues previously caused by holes on oil ports missing on some gaskets, which results in low/ no oil flow.

The pressure is fine at cold start and only drops when running. We are going to get a new cam box and see if that fixes the problem.

Mechanic replaced Cambox and cams which was the problem. Oil pressure is back to normal.
