Agree with comments from others.

Some good potential here on this one.

Very original plug mod to plug k-jet holes......lol! Never to learn something new. This cannot be unseen.

Proper engine with that long ratio box will work out fine.

That looks really good. I would take a car that needed motor/wiring done over a car that needs lots of body work anyway.

RV is the 1.8 digifant motors, my import mk2 has the same motor.

Thanks for the comments guys.
Agreed, I did want to do a full resto, but frankly I have zero experience with body work and I'm sure it takes years to learn it right, so I would have to farm out any body work to someone else.
Another black magic skill is carburetor tuning, I'll need to see what is involved with converting to FI.

If a carburettor is in a proper state of repair, it is really not difficult to tune at all.

The problem comes in when components are worn, e.g. throttle spindles, float valve, accelerator pump, wrong hose connections, gaskets, base plate... Then it's almost mission impossible to tune properly.

Seems the deal has fallen through - the guy was selling the car on behalf of a friend, and my insurance had some requirements, such as a letter or affidavit from the registered owner agreeing to the sale (which the license office wants too at any rate), a photo of the disk, and I wanted a letter from the registered owner saying it was ok to make payment to a third party. The guy was going to organize a flatbed and roadworthy for me. Although he said he was not in a rush to sell, he emailed to say he has gone above and beyond to assist me and basically his patience is exhausted - I did not think that I think I'm asking anything out of expectation. Anyway, I let him know if he wants to withdraw, best of luck to him.

Your requirements are definitely not unreasonable...that's pretty much what you need or not much different
from what you need, when selling a used car privately

As unfortunate as this seems, sometimes its a blessing in disguise. Might've been some other dodgy stuff in the back ground.

There were a few in rough condition on Fakebook Marketplace not so long ago.

The hunt continues?

Indeed! There are a lot of “customised” 2 doors on FB but I wanted the hard to find bits like wheel arch extensions, original dash, seats. Wolfsburg wheel and gti console was bonus on this one. Anyway, onwards

Seems this dood still trying to sell the car
https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/it ... _code=null
He's selling it piece by piece - BBS front spoiler gone, Wolfsburg steering wheel gone, mag wheels gone, centre console with VDO gauges gone...
Perhaps I dodged a bullet if no-one else wants to take it, even at the lower price
Anyway, probably for the best, perhaps in a few years I'll look again, for now it's on the back burner.

Howsit Belix - I've got a cool CAR magazine article that I got sent from VWSA a while back.

I will look on my home PC when I get home later Tonight.

Its a PDF document, should tell you everything about the GT.

I can either email it to you or send the link after posting on postimages.

Let me know...

The vehicle was tested by CAR magazine and was featured in their April 1983 issue.
