The problem is clearly hydraulic in nature. The ABS pump can only create any pressure if it's activated.

Bleeding the pump should not be necessary if the rest system is good.

The whole system is dependant on the M/C to make it all work, even the ABS.

Strip out the master cylinder and open it, if it's serviceable. The internals will say a lot about how well it was working. Look for particles and debris.

Before you do any of that make sure to check for free play on the pedal. Read my previous post related to that.

There is some form of free play between the pedal and pushrod. I've bought a newaster cylinder so time to fit that.

Sorry to hear about your situation Zif.

I hope you bought a decent Master Cylinder though - I've seen the cheaper variants fail instantly. Although this was on a citi golf. Not sure what brands are available for the Polo, but hopefully you got an ATE or something along those lines.

Initial one was from GW which I won't replace with again. Managed to find a Febi master from Masterparts. Hopefully getting this done tomorrow.

Trying to get someone to come code the abs pump for me is like trying to draw water out from a rock.

Update on the issue.

Changed out the master cylinder and seems like the brakes aren't locking up anymore. Need to take it out for a longer drive to see if it's really been resolved or is it just for a short distance.
