Painting Calipers - any preferred brands of paints ?

Post by P1LAYA-ZN »

Good day gents,

So, I'm planning on finally painting my calipers this holiday and looking for some recommendations on a good paint that will last and not peel off or fade over time.
What are some of the better options available locally ?
I know the calipers need to be thoroughly cleaned before painting but is it advisable putting a primer, followed by a few coats of paint and finally a clear coat ?

Any tips or advice is appreciated.

Thanks...

Duplicolor caliper spray paint works well and lasts, if done correctly.
I used VHT High Heat primer, followed by Duplicolor yellow on my Caddy's calipers months ago and they still look 100%. And I drive plenty, and on all kinds of roads.
The paint has held up very nicely so far.

I was going to use some VHT clear, but when I got the stuff, they did not have stock.

Edited to add: on my bike, I used VHT red for the calipers and the paint is looking a bit sad after years of road riding and track days. When I repaint them in December, I will use the same method as the Caddy's calipers.

The most important is to clean them properly and remove any grease, oil dust residue....clean them with an oil degreaser.
And then any high heat paint will work...i never used a clear coat. But did apply about 4 coats of paint waiting for each layer to dry thoroughly before applying the next.

Thanks guys.
Yup, preparation is key, that goes for painting of any substrate.
So, Duplicolour is a good brand ?
What is the going price for a can and how many are needed to cover 4 coats comfortably ?

Buy 2 cans colour and one clear. All high heat.
Any brand should be OK. Leave 30 min to 1 hour between coats to dry.
