Radio component protection removal

Post by ak77 »

Hi All,
Hope someone can help...
I’m swopping out a std mk5 headunit with a mk6 headunit and am told that in a couple of days it’ll come up with a component protection message which only VW can remove. Can some direct me otherwise please? Will vagsoftware thing be able to remove (forgive my nontechnical terminology please) the message?
Thanx all

Radio component protection removal

The golf mk6 radios don't have component protection - rcd310, rcd510, rns510 and even the newer Rcd330 versions. The mk7 spec radios have component protection.

Battery drain may be an issue depending on can us version but there is a work around.

Hi Belix,
Thank you so much for the reply. Very much appreciated.
May I ask, is there any way to know beforehand of the possible battery drainage issue and what is the work around?
Thank you again.
Regards

If you get a vcds scan, you can see the part number of the can us module. There was a topic, I think it was call "rns510" where the part number was discussed. --> Unit RNS510

For the battery drain work around, if I recall, it was a simple bridge between two terminals in the fuse box. https://youtu.be/Uma0jJjqqu4

I got the part number - 1K8035150H
Think VAG software can undo the component protection. So says YouTube 😁
Now just to find someone that can
