which gearbox do i have?

Good day.
I am busy with a Golf Mk2 project and in the last week just received a engine and gearbox.
I bought it via LDR Engines here in Cape Town.
They import their motors from the U.K.
I bought a Golf 4 VR6 2.8 24V and a manual cable shift gearbox.
I was wondering how a person know if the gearbox is a 5 speed or 6 speed.
And then also if anyone is reading this topic where will be the best place to source parts and info to assist me in anyway to make this project work?

If you post the gearbox code here, then I'm sure someone would be able to give you the specs. Or you could actually do a Google search using the gearbox code...

Mk4 VR's had either 02J 5 speed gearboxes, and the last models came with 02M 6 speed gearboxes.
The automatic Mk4 VR's had the 01M 'box.

As Mark said, check the gearbox code.
It should be either of these codes: DZC, EHC, EGF, EWW, FBY or FCF.

so i just found the code. it states on the gearbox
EBS 03 070 37 0195
All i know its a manual cable shift.

EBS gearbox is from the VR5 and is 5 speed.
