Audi TT traction issues

Post by MoeHS1 »

Hey guys. I have a 2008 Audi TT 2.0TFSI non Quattro. Mileage is at 110 000km and car is stock besides for a downpipe. I am having a lot of issues with traction. Even if I only go half throttle the car spins and I get a traction control light. I thought it might be worn out bushings so I took it to a suspension place but they said everything looks fine. I have Bridgestone Potenza RE002 tyres on so I don't think theres any problem with grip. Any suggestions for what else I can check or possible causes for this.

This may sound a bit silly, but are you sure it is not the clutch slipping?
Or something like one or more of the wheel sensors giving issues thus triggering the traction control?

Best is to have the car scanned for errors first and take it from there.

Nothing wrong with the car , Welcome to the world of early turbo torque in a manual FWD. You going to have to learn to be more sympathetic with the gas paddle, especially if the front wheels is not straight.

It's more controlled with the DSG boxes.

Its not the clutch. You can hear the wheels spinning and feel it. No errors come up when I scan it

Mine is the DSG. I understand what a reasonable amount of wheelspin should be. My previous car was a Stage 2 1.9TDI that was making double the torque that this has and no traction control and it didn't spin this easily unless you went WOT

Start with alignment and make sure all of that is in check.
If that is all good then you might have a map on the car. Even a stage 1 map has a healthy torque increase on these cars.

You must realise that the gearing is much shorter on these cars than your old tdi. So torque at the wheels might actually be more.

I will try to get an alignment done over the weekend. Is there any way to check if the car has a remap besides a dyno?

You should be able to see it by logging the airflow and boost.

Thanks. I will try running some logs over the weekend

My 09 TT was the car that had the worst traction of any of my FWD VAG cars. You will have less traction on run flats also. Mine was a stage 2 car with runflats and 1st and 2nd gear has zero grip

Did you ever find any solution to improve it? Would poly bushes and a dogbone insert make a difference. Taking the car in for alignment today so I will see if that helps at all

Never fixed it, but the stickiest non-runflat tryes would be an option, although you then have the risk of no spare tyre. Any improvementts in suspension could be of help I guess, the best fix however is to have bought a TTS

You will need to avoid weight shifting to the rear of the car so stiffer suspension components would be the way to go. Starting with springs or coilovers
