Polo 6N 1.6 Misfire when cold

Post by BeastMK22 »

Morning All,

Got myself another polo after a 5 year hiatus, just had to come back

So this is the issue and need some direction so I can tackle this issue over the weekend. The car struggles to start when cold - I have to give it a few swings before it splutters into life and I have kind of keep tapping the throttle to keep it going for a few seconds. After with the car will idle but I can hear a misfire or splutter.

When I depressed the accelerator it will either die or splutter up the rev range. This misfire happens until it gets warm and I drive it a few minutes after which it goes away. During this time it smokes but I can smell its over-fueling.

My basic knowledge lends me towards a fueling issue somehow but need some input here on where to start.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Start with the basics and check the coils, leads and plugs.

The fuel you are smelling is likely unburnt fuel in the exhaust.

It may be as simple as water in the plug wells or a bad plug lead.

Or even the maybe classic faulty water temp sender. Comon issue on mp9.
