Light weight but strong 5/100 wheel, options?

Post by P1LAYA-ZN »

Good day gents,
So, I am looking for a lighter rim than the stock S3 8L rim which is 23kg with tyre. Would like something in 18 inch. What good options are there?

Hey, nope just wanted to be able to step up to 18s and not have a heavier wheel.
My S4 Avus wheels are 24kg and so are my TT V6 18s.
So, although they look great, that slight extra weight changes the whole feel of the car, both acceleration, braking and handling.
These OEM wheels are very heavy, but look great.
I've heard that A-lines are quite good also O.Z Racing, but which others, also I've Seen O.Z Reps but surely these are not as strong.
It doesn't have to be super light weight for racing, just a few kgs is good enough.
Problem is also getting 1 that looks as good as the OEMs and lighter.
What about the 3SDM 0.06 18 inch, are these any good ?

Don't opt for reps if you're looking to save weight and have a strong wheel.
Try getting a set of Enkei RS05RR if you can source them. They look damn gorgeous and are quite light

From what I've seen / heard, A-Line's are prone to cracking or even complete failure, particularly on heavier cars

Personal experience: Hit a relatively small pothole with my A3 Jetta, sporting 195/50HR14's, and had a damaged rim & tyre (RF) - also had to write the whole set off as the repairers couldn't properly match the original colour!

I wouldn't dare putting a rep on a S3, this car is too heavy and our roads are pretty awful.
I have seen this Enkei wheel, they must be forged wheels. They look great and very Hard to find.

Definitely stay away from reps.

I fully understand your logic of trying to save weight but if this is your daily driver, I would steer clear of lightweight rims just because of the sad state of our roads.

I will NEVER EVER buy/use Copy Cheap cast rims.

Was behind a Burnt Orange Metallic Opel Corsa on the N17 a few years back , coming back from Secunda.

His cheap rear rim disintegrated near Balfour . He veered left off the high way , into a ditch, We werethere 45 min , till the ER24 helicopter came to get him..

Will only use OEM FORGED rims, never a cheap CAST copy or drilled PCD changed rims..

Yes Forged Wheels are the Best, but they are not even remotely affordable.
I would simply love to have a set of forged wheels, if I had that kind of cash.
Has anyone used XXR wheels. They made in Taiwan, and have some good designs available and I have also heard good things about them...
