Golf Mk2 Ignition Coil Replacement Intervals
Greetings guys
So as the topic states, do any of you have info on what the replacement intervals are for the ignition coil on a Golf Mk2, this would most likely apply to Golf M1, 2 and 3 seeing as their ignition systems are basically the same.
Thanks

Yes. You change it when it stops working.

Re: Golf Mk2 Ignition Coil Replacement Intervals
I have owned car with coils older than 20 years and lots of km. Have never felt it needed changing because it is older than 5 or 6 years. If you feel like changing it just for the sake of changing it then do so and keep the old one in the boot.

Re: Golf Mk2 Ignition Coil Replacement Intervals
Thanks for your input Panic! I find that my car no longer starts and idles first try in the morning or if it has been standing for a while, I have to blip the throttle once and then it will idle, otherwise it starts and idles for maybe 2 or 3 seconds and then dies. So I am trying to work out what it is and I guess it could be spark or fuel related, maybe fuel pressure isn't quite as good as what it was when the pump was brand new

Re: Golf Mk2 Ignition Coil Replacement Intervals
Not nearly enough info for me to even comment. carb?. efi? Aftermarket?. usually you would much rather look at fueling instead of spark for those symptoms you describe.

Fuel injected, Perfect Power XMS-4C4A, cold start was pretty good about a year and a bit ago but then suddenly started getting funny with it.panic-mechanic wrote: ↑Thu May 30, 2019 11:37 am Not nearly enough info for me to even comment. carb?. efi? Re: Golf Mk2 Ignition Coil Replacement Intervals
ah. maybe play a bit with the timing around cold start. you have not had the dissy out and changed the timing inadvertently?. I doubt it's the coil.

Re: Golf Mk2 Ignition Coil Replacement Intervals
Okay cool will give that a crack, does an engine want more timing for cold start?panic-mechanic wrote: ↑Fri May 31, 2019 12:52 pm ah. maybe play a bit with the timing around cold start. you have not had the dissy out and changed the timing inadvertently?. I doubt it's the coil.
Nope haven't touched the dissy except for the cap and rotor just to clean a bit of carbon build up

Re: Golf Mk2 Ignition Coil Replacement Intervals
Yes a cold engine want more timing so in the timing at temp you add like 6-8 degrees at 0 degrees and taper it down so that by around 50 degrees there is nothing.
