I can guarantee thatbwith that leak there would be virtually no boost and no brake assist.

repair didnt quite work, got brake pressure back but still the jerking then limp mode. after the test drive inspected everything wiggled the nipple and the pratley steel broke off. i rushed and didn't do a proper job scuffing the surface and and.

Contemplating getting a new vac pump but i will be pretty pissed if i spend the 2k on a new one and it doesn't solve the issue. also that pump get very hot and im wondering if its too hot for the pratley steel. will pull the pump off this afternoon so i can do a thorough repair and then see from there...

you don't have much of a choice. there are too many systems depending on vacuum on those cars to ignore the R2k+ problem you have there.

does the vacuum pump get oil from the engine or does it hold its own bit of oil for lubrication?

My understanding is that it is lubricated by the engine, through the little ring-shaped port in its gasket.

Still jerking then limp mode.
-replaced all vacuum lines
-replaced vacuum pump
-replaced main vac tube from the pump
-turbo actuator moves freely

will get it checked via vcds. but loosing hope. there is a certain threshold i gave myself for money being spent on the car before i draw the line and sell it and i have reached that now

Yet we still don't know the actual cause because you have not bothered to get a scan organized. So is it over boost or under boost. Without knowing that you are guessing at the cause.

P1557 overboost code.

i was so convinced it was under boosting because it will jerk and loose power a bit before going into the limp. i couldnt determine how much the turbo actuator was moving but it felt 'enough'. shows how much i know

also the boost kicks in a bit later after i replaced the vacuum lines. say 300 to 500 revs later than usual. thought it was to do with the vac pump but after i replaced that still continued. A friend noted that the new silicone lines were a lot thinner inside diameter. i never bothered to double check i asked the speedshop for 3mm line an it was marked as 3mm line but turns out it is only 2 mm line...

Glad you are getting somewhere bud, quick Google search on the fault:
P1557- Charge Pressure Control: Positive Deviation Possible Symptoms You May have overboosted I would check out the EGR make sure it is open.

Reduced power output
Limp mode

Possible Causes:
Boost Pressure too High
Hoses/Pipes incorrect connected, disconnected, blocked or leaking
Charger Pressure Control defective
VNT (variable nozzle turbo): nozzles stuck
Solenoid Valve for Boost Pressure Control (N75) defective

Possible Solutions:
Check Hoses/Pipes to/between Components
Check Solenoid Valve for Boost Pressure Control (N75)
Check / Clean / Replace Charge Pressure Control
Check / Clean mechanism for variable nozzles

Could even be the canister that controls the vanes that have failed. Use a vacuum pump on the line and see if it moves the vanes.

Yes will test the actuators this weekend. As mentioned only happens when the engine is cold? no issues again since i did the scan but different route to work might have something to do with it (less highway) Will see how it performs on the way to Durban later today. A bottle of injector and turbo cleaner with a good old Italian tune up wont hurt anyone!

Keen to get the turbo pulled and opened to give it a proper clean, just the process in getting it off the car seems quite daunting.

The friend whose house i go to to to work on my car is having issues with his figo tdci going into limp. Been over a few times to trouble shoot. they have one car with a double garage and i got the all clear to leave my car there while i take the turbo home to clean it

So as expected the additive didn't do much. However the durban climate did wonders! Not one issue, easy start up, no limping, no odd rough idle, no jerky acceleration. Car is much happier there.

Pvt business ventures is going to keep me busy this weekend and then its back to dbn next weekend so no time to pull the turbo and give it a proper clean yet
