Golf doesn't want to start.

Post by Oompie Q »

Our 2006 Golf Rhythm 1.4 carb doesn't want to start. The engine swings but doesn't start. Car does have have central locking, alarm and immobiliser. (factory fitted)
On Tuesday i started the car and drove to Springs from Boksburg. Did business there, did quite a few stops and no problem with starting the car.
Came back home and left the car standing for about 2 hours before my son left for work. Started, no problem.
He went to work and on the way home he had the headlights on, when he selected brights on the car all the interior lights and radio etc went off.
The headlights were on, no problem. He stopped at home switched the car off, pushed the lock button, nothing happened.
Had to lock the car with the key.
Tried to unlock the car with the remote, nothing!!!
Got in the car and tried to start it, swings but doesn't take.

Any help or information appreciated.
Thanks

There must be a million posts like this. Do some searching.
What have you diagnosed - is there spark, is there fuel, does it crank fast or slow.
check the fuses by the battery.
how many volts available at the battery when it cranks.
could be that alternator does not charge properly and the battery is now low.

Did some searching but could not find a similar problem in the posts.
1. There is no spark at all.
2. there is fuel.
3. crank fast, battery good.
4. checked terminals and fuses all ok.

When i turn the ignition, sometimes all the warning lights would come on and then goes off in about 2 seconds. The only warning light that would stay on is the handbrake light. Most of the time only the handbrake warning light will come on.

You can turn the key and the engine swings good but doesn't start.
Tried the reset sequence in the manual, but nothing happens.
Had the key and the spare key tested and they both work fine.

Checked for the immobiliser and found that it is a Shurlok system. Removed it and took it to Pitstop and were told that they can't test the Shurlok.
They suggest that i must install a new immobiliser, either Autowatch or Sanji.

On my Velociti when i turn on the ignition the following lights are displayed
Petrol
Oil
Handbrake
Battery / Ignition
Water

After a few seconds the Oil, Petrol and water lights goes off and only the Battery and Handbrake remains on

its Strange that your battery light does not stay on.

Check the Coil as well. This seems like an electrical fault lurking somewhere

Agree with jimbogp is an electrical issue ...check the coil coil wires also don't those cars use the tp100 module if it does also check that ... distributor also cause no spark check all the plugs n wires r in

HI GUYS NEED SOME HELP/ADVICE. I HAVE A 2009 GOLF MK1 TENACITI 1.4i. MY ISSUE IS COLD START AS I KNOW INJECTED DOES NOT HAVE A COLD START VALVE. I REPLACED THE TEMP YELLOW BAND SWITCH AND STILL DOES NOT HELP AT ALL. WHEN THE CAR IS WARM THERES NO ISSUES AT ALL. JUST ON A COLD START I GOT TO HOLD THE PEDAL DOWN FOR ABOUT 10 MINUTES OR IT SWITCHES OFF IF I DONT.

PLEASE ADVISE
