Gearbox options

Post by ☆KalaMK3 »

Hi all. I am looking for inputs regarding a gearbox swop. We are aiming to have 200wkw power with 380-420Nm so rod shifts wont do. We were thinking of 6speed cable shift boxes but possibilities are endless. All inputs will be appreciated.

F.Y.I doing a dual 3/4puk clutch for enjoyable driving.

What panic said.

Mine pushed 250kw+ on rodshift with only diff bolts changed although it was a 2Y and not FFZ or similar.

2Y has the thicker main shaft where clutch plate fit.

210 mm clutch, 9 bolt is the recommended one to use.

Are you sure it is a FFZ? Rev’s should be lower and around 3000 rpm depending on your wheel and tyre size.

Ok, contact 8v performance and enquire how much the will charge for a 5th gear change out to give you a drop in rev’s in 5th gear. Might be cheaper than another gearbox.

Contact import guys, think Turbo Boys were selling over stocked ones for like R2500 second hand.

The 9 bolt flywheel and clutch combo is 210mm which is what you want. It is a straight fit

No need to use the clutch as long as yours is in nice condition.

Swap the box, fill (or change) the oil, adjust the linkages, double check the driveshaft bolts (50Nm) and off you go.

I recommend new bolts for the drive shafts if you can.
Use normal Allen head bolts, take an old one to the bolt shop and match it for length, but make sure they are 12.9 tensile bolts ONLY. Anything less will break.

All 020 cups fit the 020 gearbox.

Go buy seal kits to get new cup seals and snap rings.

Drill a piece of square tube and get a 150x10mm bolt and a nut.

Remove the cup seal by puncturing it in the middle, place the drilled length of square tube over the driveshaft cup and thread the bolt into the diff through the square tube. The bolt needs to be a full length thread bolt. Tighten the nut down onto the steel tube to relieve the tension on the snap ring inside the cup. Remove the snap ring with an appropriate tool and slack off the nut.

Installing the cups is reverse of removal.

Evening all. IV got a GTI 1997 2,0 8valve MP9 std motor . IV got a problem that the OBDll won't let any scan tool or even the VAG into it . Can some one help me with advice ? . Yes I do have a aftermarket radio on it and I have done the basic checks on the plug for 5volts and ignition and 30main power.

VAG 1551 diagnostic tool or the emulator for the aforementioned tool.

AFAIK nothing else works as it's not OBD2. Early OBD systems didn't have the universal access that was mandatory on OBD2 .
