Hi guys.
I know this has been covered a few times but can’t get conclusive answers.
I have a 1.4 golf it was driving fine then the oil light came on and buzzer sounded only for a short while.
After that the car stopped was on a dirt road so was at about 10kmh. Checked the oil level all good.
Now the car won’t spark from the distributed to the plugs. Check the coil makes a spark but only as the key is turn on not while swinging.
So changed the distributor think it’s the hall sender no change.
Under the cubby the is a shurlok box is that what they call the tp100?
Where do I go from here?
Regards

Re: Mk1 golf no spark
Make sure the distributor shaft is turning( ie take the dizzy cap of and look at the rotor). If it broke the timing belt - you will have no oil pressure and no spark as the intermediate shaft turns the oil pump and also the distributor - which tells tells the management the engine is turning and to make spark.

Re: Mk1 golf no spark
Thanks man
I did check the timing belt it’s fine and rotor is spinning perfectly.
Is that shurlok box the control unit it has the colour coded wires that go to coil and hall sensor. My question is can I bypass it?

Re: Mk1 golf no spark
Ps my key has a transponder in so I presume it turns off the spark to coil?
The shurlok box has a lot more wire than the tp100 could I insert one of those instead?
Everything else on the car works without the shurlok box starter etc

Had the same problem couple weeks back. Turned out to be faulty rotor. 32 bucks later and purring away.

Re: Mk1 golf no spark
I wish it was the rotor.
I’ve changed the whole distributor.

Re: Mk1 golf no spark
I'm sure if you are really clever and can run and older cluster etc you can bypas the shurlock box. But it ain't a quick 3 minute affair. Get a new one, get it coded by vw and be on your way if that is what you are sure it is.
