Log the car
Add fuel additives
Does it still ping?
If yes, sell the car before it breaks

Where you located? Is the car stock?
As said, try a higher octane fuel or a additive.

Have you checked the manual for fuel spec requirement?

I am situated in Western Cape Northern suburbs. I will check my manual on those specs. Also what type of fuel additives can I use? The car is standard no modifications.

Ping is caused by a few things. But the obvious stuff to check on a stock car is
a) fuel pressures
b) is the knock sensor OK.
c) do a compression test. ( A cylinder head gasket that leaks between two cylinders can cause this. So a compression test will show one cylinder low and the other too high for instance.)
if you add octane booster and it goes away maybe you need to get the car remapped by a guy that can do custom maps and that can remove some timing.

Hi Gents

Thank you for all the advice and assistants in the trouble shoot. I have changed the fuel i am using which was the Sasol 95 unleaded and switched to Shell V- Power. this has made a world of a difference with regards to the pinging and performance, there is still a slight ping on the pull away but hopefully this will disappear. I have only made the switch Saturday evening and have not driven a lot since. So i am not sure if is that Sasol unleaded octain is lower than Shell's V-power.

I am not sure if that also caused the strong fuel smell coming from engine, could it be because of the previous fuel Sasol i have been using.

Keep us posted.

My daily runner to work and back is a carburetor 150cc Honda motorcycle. I have now done multiple fuel tests and all came back the same. I get the best cold start performance from Sasol fuel. All other makes I have to use more choke and it splutters and coughs when idling in sub zero temperatures to get some temp into the engine before driving to work. With Sasol I can use less choke to start up and it idles much smoother while still warming up and no cough or splutters.
