2004 Caddy speedo not working

Post by Armand »

Hi, can anyone help with advice on what to check, it is as if the speedo is pluged out at the gearbox, speedo not working and feul gauge fluctuating, it used to work but I cleaned the engine and when I plugged out the speedo sensor to neaten up the wires I found the sensor pulling a apart in two pieces, I pushed it all back together and the speedo was working again for 2 days when it died, knowing there was a problem with the speedo sensor I replaced it but the speedo still wont work, any advice on where and how to test for what readings next and do anybody maybe know where I can find a wiring diagram for the newer round shape dashboard golf and caddy's please.
Thanks in advance

Is the gear proberly seated in the gearbox. I had the same problem where speedo wirked and stopped working. Found that gear popped up and not seated right down to the bottom in the casing. Refit and was working again.

You can fit a cordless drill to it and spin it in reverse to check if you get a speed reading.

You should get a pulse on the centre pin not constant 10v when turning.

I replaced the cluster and wasnt the fault aswell, checked all readings again, first wire was permanent 12v, second pin was the 10v signal and the last pin with brown wire was ground, I still got 3ohm between ground and the negative battery terminal, I started testing from the negative terminal to the engine and to the bolt just under the batter where al the other negatives connect to and found it has been making a bad connection there due to spray when the bakkie was sprayed and tested 2.4ohm between that point and the negative terminal, cleaned all the paint of between the terminals and tested again and got 0,04 ohm, tested between the negative terminal and the brown wire on the speedo sensing plug and got 0,4 ohms, tested and speedo was working fine
