Post by Matthews c!t! :) »

Hi there , my aunt has a 2012 polo vivo 1.6i .
It will start in the morning on cold starts
But won't start in the afternoon when it's hot, it just swings over but doesn't start , what must I do?

My wife has the same problem with her 2010 polo 1.4i, so does her colleague. Apparently a common issue on vivo and 6r polo. Some say replacing the fuel pump/relay resolves this. Havent tried yet.

Water temp sender makes more sense though...

Have the car scanned.

..Does it have a rough idle on cold starts and fluctuating temp gauge?

I replaced my temp switch on my vivo, it did not have any non start symptoms.

My error:

P0116 - Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor 1 Circuit Range/Performance

This. A colleague had the same issue on her 2013, took Dealer a week to figure out its a relay. Worth a look

Strange thing is the relay sits under the steering column, so not sure how the heat affects it?

Now to make things weirder, Goldwagen will tell you they dont have a fuel pump relay listed for these cars :???:

Its sits on the right of the engine in the coolant housing. Just below the air guide. You will see the temp switch as its the only part that has an electrical connection. the switch is grey.

I use OBDEleven, very useful.

On the right of the engine if you stand in front of it yes. But basically all material describing engine side is as if you were sitting inside the car looking forward thus that making it the left of the engine. Sorry just being pedantic.

Shot man! Its my wife's car. Will contact you if I need to bring for that scan. Interested in getting one of these dongles for myself though. I still have the old vag-com diags cable.

My polo 6 tdi used to do that when its hot it cuts out and u have to wait for the fuel pump relay to cool off before you can start it again then runs a little and stall again wouldnt start when hot. Cold starts no issues same time.did a scan and gave maf error replaced the sensor and the relay no issues for a year now hot or cold. Not sure what maf had to do with the relay heating up maybe just coincidence ek weet nie.

Good day
It partially solved the problem because it randomly struggles to start but I think I may have to get the original water temp sender unit from the agents, the one I have I bought from Goldwagen. Before I replaced this it was battling to start every day,now it is at least once every 8 weeks.
