You need to trace where the power break is with a volt meter. Guessing and randomly replacing parts is is an expensive way to do it.
It can even be the ignition switch.

Hi there, go and change your indictor lever on the left if you haven't already....What I mean is change the whole left lever that you use to indicate, I'm certain it will work...I went through that issue not so long ago and the above fix worked the charm....Good luck and let us know what is the outcome

Re: How to get my headlights to work on a golf1
Hi Guys
my wife has a 1997 mk1 citi (carb). We bassicly had the whole car redone and she looks and runs great but now suddenly the lights keep going off while driving. it seems to be the switch because when you touch it the lights come back on. i decided to replace the switch, when i phoned glodwagen they wanted to know whether it is a 2 or 4 pin switch and i have no ideas as i am not at all technically inclined and i dont want to have it taken out before i have to go buy it because my wife leaves home at six in the mornings and sice it is winter she cannot drive in the dark.... any advice on which it might be? 2 or 4 pin?

Pull the switch out the dash, pull the connector off and count how many pins it has.

Re: How to get my headlights to work on a golf1
Good day
I'm having a VW citi golf Tenacity 2009. My lighting problem is intermittent. At times the headlights fail to switch on after starting the car, it affects the indicators and fan blower motor as well. At times when i flick the brights on, it solves the problem(ONLY SOMETIMES) Other times i just need to try ...and ...try...and try....
It is becoming a real problem, because winter is coming and i'll be using the lights early in the morning. I already changed the headlight switch...but it didn't solve the problem.
Please help....ANYONE

Re: How to get my headlights to work on a golf1
This sounds like a problem between the ignition and a relay if it cuts off all of those components. Also check all the fuses.
My previous Golf 1 had lots of relay issues (wipers to be specific, ironic hey), there was water leaking over the fuse box.
