What's the best tyre?

Post by VenomGTI »

Hi guys I bought a set of 18s 36ET 7,5J rims. I would like to know what's the best tyres.
I am currently running the Bridgestone potenza RE002 on my 17s.

I want to go for the same tyre it's 225/40/18 .

Do you guys have any suggestions??

If you want outright grip, nothing beats a road legal semi slick.

Otherwise for everyday driving, you can look at Goodyear F1 Asymmetric 2 or Pirelli P Zero or Continental Sport Contact 5. All of these won't last long.

The best tyre is subjective . . .
Best tyre in terms of dry performance, wet performance, road noise, longevity, price etc.

In terms of bang for buck, GY Asymmetric 2 / 3 & Toyo Proxes T1 Sport are great.

Slightly more expensive, but also good Conti Sport Contact 5.

On the high end of the price scale, Michelin PSS and P Zero. Great tyres, but the prices are ridiculous.

Currently riding on GY Asymmetric 3 for the past 4000km on 225/40/18
Amazing tyre in both dry conditions on a modded FWD car and just as good in the wet.
If money is not an issue I would go Michelin PSS

Well I'm looking for a good all rounder performance tyre because the Bridgestone was quite Lekker.

My next question is what profile 40 or 35?

Ok so basically what you are asking is how are the cheaper available tyres going to be. Because for anything the 'best' in that size your budget is way under.
Also try falken in that price range. Decent enough and not terrible in wear.
Have always had good service from them.
Try solly's in Nigel for falken.

best tire overall would be a asymmetric tread pattern , Stay away from directional tires, only good for straight forward movement hence why they always cheaper.

Pirelli and Michelin is out of your budget.

Best tires in your budget:

Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2
BRIDGESTONE POTENZA S001
CONTINENTAL SPORTCONTACT 5

All tires above are good

S001 wears quickly. Not brilliant in the wet. From my experience. Cheapest I could get SC5 was R2500 per tyre. GY Assym 3 worked out to about R1600 per tyre. Good value and performance.

Great I thinks I'll go for the Goodyear.

Where's the best place to get them?

We've had bridgestone potenzas on a previous project car (rotary porsche 912) and we were very impressed with the grip in wet and dry, but that's the only tire I have experience with on the list above.

That's a good price on the AS3. I just paid 2250 for a 235/45/18. Where did you get yours?

My 1600 carb chico used to light up those tyres even if the road was mildly moist on a rolling 1st gear pull and that thing had NO power...

They very hard from my experience with them
