Hi.
I drive a golf 1 citi 96 model.
When i switch my head light on, only my park lights go on. My head lights does not go on. When i switch my brights on they also does not stay on. I must keep the lever pulled back to keep the brights on.
The back lights is fine.
I did check all the fuses.
What else can I do or check?
Thanks.
Headlights not working.

Re: Headlights not working.
If the fuses are fine then next to check would be the relay

Re: Headlights not working.
These are hard things to sometimes find. The problem is I don't know how well you are at fault finding, comfortable you are with a voltmeter or own one. You need to see if power gets to the light switch.
It is supplied from the ignition switch so that it can kill the main lights during starter crank to lower battery drain. If that power does not come form the switch anymore you will have exactly this.
But it can also be caused by a fault in the light switch.
It will not be fuse or relay as they do come on when you pull the flash on the lever which bypass the other power sources ie. the ignition switch.
It's fairly complicated circuit.

Re: Headlights not working.
with new spec dash, most likely the headlight switch is faulty

Re: Headlights not working.
Did you check the fuses, headlights, brights and parks have their own fuses

Re: Headlights not working.
The fault used to be intermittent.... But now it seems to be permanent.....it affects the indicators and hazards as well.... When i pull the brights lever the dimms comes on as well.... as usual, but the brights doesn't latch/stay on as per normal....i already changed the light switch... I suspect the relay, but t don't know it's location....

Re: Headlights not working.
if all the globes are fine then it could be the head light switch itself, it has the built in relay and could be faulty
