2005 B6 A4 1.8T (BEX) Clutch Replacement

Post by Neuk »

Hi all

Although I have tried to put it off I am going to have to bite the bullet sooner rather than later, the clutch in my 2005 B6 A4 1.8T (BEX) although it is not slipping is taking strain in heavy traffic. It is already difficult to get the car in to some gears, reverse can be a real pain at times...

So, I need the following at least:

Clutch
Pressure plate
Release bearing
Dual mass flywheel

Is there anything else I should look at replacing while I am in there? And what non replaceable hardware is there that I will need, like stretch bolts, etc? I have a quote on the Luk clutch and flywheel kits already, so just want to make sure what else I will need.

Thanks
Nic

perhaps do slave cylinder while you at it.

Whats your pricing on the dual mass flywheel...LMAO, i got quoted for clutch and flywheel R17k! The ABF and VR6 kit is like R4k.

That is not a bad idea, I'll get a quote on one and see how much they cost, I would rather spend a bit extra and replace what might be a good idea. Where did you get that quote from? The quote I got earlier I can't share but it is under R10k for the Luk clutch and flywheel kit which includes the pressure plate and release bearing I think. Unfortunately I don't have the option of the ABF/VR6 combination.

I got a quote from Wikus GW.

Something is not right then, I got quotes from Graham at Jhb CBD GW  I am struggling with finding out which is the correct kit I need though, I should probably just ask Audi for a quote and get the part numbers from them.

VW gave me a quote of R5k for oem Clutch and then clutch and flywheel is R17k so prepare for ass hurt if you get VW pricing.

GW Deleray supplies a Valeo kit and ABF second hand flywheel that has been skimmed and balanced. so its pretty much new.

Hang on, I thought Wikus quoted you the R17k for clutch and flywheel? I can understand Audi giving me a price of R17k, lol! I am getting a quote from Audi anyway, firstly so I can laugh at the pricing and secondly so I can confirm the OEM part numbers as there is some confusion as to what is for the 5 speed versus 6 speed Audi gearboxes. I don't think the pricing from GW at just below R10k for the Luk clutch and flywheel kits is too bad.

GW is around half of Audi for the Luk kits. Graham can get the Sachs clutch kit but it is 30% more than the Luk and he doesn't sell the Sachs flywheel kit.

I will have to go through the thread I had for the car but if memory serves me well, I went with the stock Luk clutch kit along with new DMF, flywheel bolts, rear main crank seal, thrust sleeve, cam position sensor and slave cylinder.

Hi Nick, thanks for the feedback. The clutch is starting to shudder so replacement will need to be done sooner or later.

I always prefer standard Dmf. If you plan to keep the car for a long time then fit stock for stock.
Smf does not cater for certain vibrations these engines develop at low rpm under boost and having a dmf saves the drivetrain from that. So in the long run smf on those are bad for the gearbox.

Also to add, I feel the DMF brings in the power smoothly and there's no feedback on the clutch pedal or noise whatsoever - on a healthy DMF though.
