Polo 9N3 Interior Trim Overhaul
So I've been busy this weekend.
What started out with just replacing blown tail light and removing number plates so I can stick them on with valcro dots ended up being a lot more.
My center console was scratched quite bad and that rubber k@k wasn't looking to great so then this happened
Removed everything (cup holder popped open and was a **** !! to resemble)
.
Some pics of trying to polish of the rubber K@K lots of elbow grease needed
.
.
.
Where I realized there is no way in fark I'm getting the rubber k@k of nicely so I used 360 grit sandpaper and plastidip remover (basically thinners) to get it all off nicely
.
Morné doing so spray work, we used quick dry matt white spray paint
.
And here's the end result
.
.

Re: Polo 9N3 Interior Trim Overhaul
Had the same to do list a while back. Went for matt silver as it matches the original color of the GTI. Need to do it over again. Is it just me or pics not working ?

awesome, when I get my side skirts sprayed I'll have those interior timings done professionally, everything looks perfect but I'm just scared it will get dirty.Jacques1397 wrote:Had the same to do list a while back. Re: Polo 9N3 Interior Trim Overhaul
Thx guys
How to remove center console:
1) RED: Just pull off (use a screw driver if needed but I got it off by hand) Then there are 2 screws you need to remove behind it
2) GREEN: Just pull off (use a screw driver if needed but I got it off by hand) Then there are 2 screws you need to remove under it
3) Remove your radio or what ever you have there, there are 2 screw behind your radio that needs to be removed.
4) Then comes the tricky part, removing the "Card holder" is easy (pop it out with a screwdriver) then behind it is 1 screw also holding the center console. the hard part is removing the damn cup holder, there is one last screw behind it holding the center console.
The cup holder has 3 clips holding it (one of which you can't reach) I got mine out by pulling the whole thing apart from the front so that I can get to that screw and resembled the cup holder later (not easy if you didn't keep track of which parts go where).
I know you can also get it out with applying lots of force on it from the back, but you might break a clip (not the end of the world) my advice would be to go watch a couple of youtube videos on how to remove the cup holder
After that it's cake the whole thing just comes off easily, the searing wheel bits and vents also just pop out with a screw driver
Tip: don't want to scratch the plastic with a screwdriver ? just stick a layer or 2 of insulation tape over the screw driver
Now for that rubber K@K !! it's really a **** to get off especially if you want to get if off without making any small scratches on the plastic, I did about 10% of it perfectly with a cloth and scraping at the rubber with plastic tools, after a hour and a half I got sick of it and took plastidip remover (basically weak thinners) and 360 grit sandpaper and it works like a charm !! and will provide more grip for the paint to stick to.
Then we got some Quick dry matt white spray paint and gave it all about 5 cotes and It all came out looking great in the end
It's quite simple removing everything that I sprayed whiteShivbeanz wrote:Looks good! very storm trooper like

Re: Polo 9N3 Interior Trim Overhaul
Good Write up on the removal part.
I have to say , the 9n3 is an easy car to work on. I replaced my complete dashboard and trim a few months ago and managed to put everything back as well. No rattles at all. Very easy. Will take you maybe some time in the beginning to strip but you learn the ropes fast.
